The option to go three at the back with wing backs is always in Pochs thinking....hence the need to bring in another ball playing centre back. Trippiers delivery is excellent and key to Englands chances of progression...he is also smart in a way that Walker is not

I think we should be moving Davies to LCB if we are playing 3 at the back. It would also open up a position for KWP to get some game time (albeit not ideal at LWB)

Poch needs wingbacks in his system. Trippier is not a wingback. He's a square peg in a round hole. It's really not that complicated.

Fine. Attacking fullback. Ones that are capable of tracking back when they are caught upfield. He isn't.

And if the plan is to buy de Ligt and play more 3 in the back next year Trippier isn't required. He's not suited to that position at all.

Spot on :cautious:

If two England players have improved their reputation in the World Cup so far, they are surely Trippier & Lingard. Both highly intelligent and skilled footballers.

When he's on form, the relentlessness of Trippier's delivery just wears down the opposition's concentration. It's one deadly ball after another. You can rarely relax and watch the ball sail out of play or hit the first man. You have to play every cross, corner and free kick. If you're the Juventus defence, you can probably do that. Not if you're Panama.

He’s doing really well but the test will be when England play better opposition and have less of the ball, but I think counter attack will suit England in general and as long as Trips has the cover of 3 CBs behind him he should be alright.

He’s played good balls from semi-deep so far. He’s struggled when he’s been in his own half at right-back against top teams for spurs. We’ll see how he copes against tough opposition to push forward. Definitely not anything to get excited about yet.

Not the overall player of the tournament, but the best RB/ RWB so far and probably England’s stand out player. I’ve also not seen any other player provide better set piece delivery.

Forgive me sir @Chris Flynn I should probably have quoted the guy above me who said he was ‘comfortably player of the tournament so far’... which is complete horseshite. Nevertheless I appreciate he’s a good player and I support him. If you’ve been to Wembley this season and watched the number of times he’s got the ball and just passed it backwards though, you will hopefully know what I mean. Cheers

Yeah i agree man, he has been better in the world cup than he has been for Spurs this season. Sorry for calling you out man, its just if you cant be possitive after a 6 - 1 win, when can you?!

A great full back in a 3-5-2. Not as good in a 4-4-2.

I suspect the same can be said of Aurier and Rose so will be interesting to see whether we consider that next season.

I think it may suit us better but it would mean dropping an attacking player as we’d have a front 3 instead of a front 4.

Also not sure why all the negatives for suggesting Davies as a LCB when that’s where he plays for Wales.

Yeah that is the issue. I hope we use both systems next season depending on the opposition.

That’s part of why I want 433, because the way the DM can join the CBs to allow the FBs to push on, it’s basically both formations in one. It allows for the most fluidity by far. There’s a reason why Pep has never veered from it,

Has been fantastic so far, his delivery has been superb. Will be interesting to see him against better sides and whether he can maintain this form.
