Football is a funny ol game anyone would think Trippier is a better full back than Rose or worse still Young. It seems so natural for people to slag of Aurier because Trippier has delivered a few good crosses and set plays at the world cup....but when called to actually defend we saw with Colombia's goal.

I personally would sell Trippier now his price is through the roof and go with KWP and Aurier.

It was a freak goal. Header bounced at just The right height to beat him on the line. Blame.his genetics for not making him a foot taller?

Trippier isn't perfect. But not giving him his due for excellent performances this world cup by making out he's only performed vs minnows is harsh. Colombia woukd cause any team difficulties with those tactics and Tunisia are a solid side.

Bit poor to suggest he can't defend based on one set piece. He defended well in open play as far as I remember.

Some people just have an agenda and continue to post nonsense even after that. I think BBC posted that he had won 14 duels last night. I can't remember him being beaten at all last night. But yeah obviously a poor player. Unlike Walker who has given away a goal from the spot and almost two others last night after being dispossessed and running into players.

He won 8 tackles I think (substantially more than anyone else?) and was fantastic defensively, certainly streets ahead of Young who has been awful imo, and Walker, though playing a different position to the latter.

I think his composure and intelligence counted against him for his mistake, as rather than just madly flinging himself at the ball like most England players do, whatever the situation, he looked to be trying to head it over the bar, and not back into the danger zone. Was probably one of the few situations that merits mad flinging.

A set piece where Henderson dropped off Mina to give him a clear header which he misdirected into the ground and bounced up. Just shit luck and surprise.

Yes, 8 according to this. Next highest was Stones on 3:

Trippier is having a brilliant world cup no doubt about that he is now transferring the best parts of his game on the world stage theres no agenda. The system is suited to his strengths and to be fair he has actually grown in stature during the world cup and all credit to him and Magurie too .

Maybe I am being a bit harsh on Trippier and really should focus on his strength going forward.

IMO Tripp has shown during the WC and especially yesterdays game, that he is a class WB. I'm not missing Walker at all

Trippier is showing what a top class wing back he is. He can sometimes struggle in a back 4, but playing in this system he excels. I’m a big fan of playing 3 at the back and feel that should be our formation for next season. Can only see him getting better and better. And that pressure penalty he took was something very special.??

He’s had a brilliant World Cup but some of the praise has been over the top. There’s a Hytner one in the Guardian today that makes him sound like a Roberto Carlos/Cafu hybrid.

He's been England's best player and the praise has been deserved.

I cannot believe some negative comments regarding Tripps. Yes Harry is banging in the goals, but for me Tripps is our player of the tournament.
He's won every battle in each game. His distribution has been world class, and I don't say that lightly. He knows when to pass to feet, when to go back, when to go forward. But he is brilliant at playing that curled ball outside in down the right hand side. It turns their defence and immediately puts pressure on the opposition.
From what I've seen if him and Serge, their is currently no competition.

It’s weird how some players are just unfashionable and not cool. I think Trippier falls into that category. Honestly have no idea why or what it is a bit like Dier. Just seems whatever they do some people can’t accept they could possibly be quality players. While some players like say a dele it almost goes the other way and can tend to get over hyped. Maybe Dier and Trippier are a bit to English honestly don’t know what it is. But I guess couldn’t be much more English than kane so it’s not that.

I think it's that people don't like players who are not fast. People have a perception that speed of foot gets you out of trouble when you make a mistake and makes a great player. They forget speed of thought prevents the mistake in the first instance.

Even when people look at Kane and say how can he be world class, he's slow as they come. Truth is he's not slow but his assets are mental and psychological

For me I think there are two elements to it.

First people liked when we had Walker and Rose as our wing backs. They were fast, could get upand down the pitch allmatch long and really stretched defences. Many would like to see us replicate that.

The other is Trippier looks much better when the team plays a back three, Because Trippier can't get up and down the pitch as much as Walker we either play a back three to cover him or play Sissoko in midfield to cover.

In most games I prefer us having Son, Eriksen and Alli behind Kane.

Like many I see Trippier as a quality player but wonder what our best formation is and how he fits into that.

Many people then read that as people not rating Trippier which is often not the case at all.

Yeah very true I think speed does get players overrated. Although sure I saw somewhere sissoko had like the 3rd best top speed last season lol.
