Trippier is very good as a wingback in a back three formation against midtable dross.

He's a disaster waiting to happen in a back four matched up with CL-quality wingers.

It can be both.
And against mid table dross we shouldn't be playing 3 atb.

It's not necessarily a more defensive formation, some of our most scintillating performances under Poch have come with a back three. Trippier himself has won us points with crucial assists as a wingback against teams parking the bus.

I don't think he's good enough for a team with our (supposed) aspirations and would like to see him sold to raise funds for other positions, but we shouldn't just ignore the qualities he does possess. He was set up to fail tonight, and that's ultimately the manager's fault.

Three at the back does work and worked VERY well for us when we had a fully fit Wanyama playing defensive midfield.

Dier can only play in front of a back four.

I agree completely, but one of the upshots of this is that Trippier should not be playing in matches such as tonight.

Okay it’s becoming more and more apparent that Trippier left exposed is almost certainly a goal scoring opportunity for the opposition. A true defender he is not. But I would caution against throwing him under the bus so quickly. He has a wand of a right foot and has been an integral part to our attack for a few seasons now. I think many of our players are failing because of a systematic issue exposing everyone’s weakness more than anything else. There are multiple factors and a lot has to do with a low club mentality in general but also we just have aging players like Dembele and a shit ton of injuries and fatigue. I’ve personally already bit the bullet for this season and just want to see us hopefully learn from the first really poor season (it may well change hopefully but not placing any bets) of Poch’s reign and pinpoint and address our weaknesses from the bottom up.

Just personal preference. I think we finally have the offensive options where we should just throw them at those teams.

Aurier has been really solid the last few games he's run out. Even in the opener against Newcastle he had a killer cross in for Dele's goal. Its time to just roll with he and KWP.
Despite the excellent cross, Aurier was awful v Newcastle. He was only saved by the fact that Kenedy had zero end product.

IMO, its time to see what KWP can do. He is been MOTM in both games he has started as RB and with the dross being picked ahead of him at RB, he (and our other youngsters) must be wondering what he needs to do to get a game.

He’s one of poch’s favourites so there’s no chance we will sell him. Poch has his clique of players who can do no wrong and he’s one of them.

He’s been rubbish most of the season and we have enough cover there. Aurier looked good when he’s played and we all know KWP is a star in waiting.

But Poch won’t drop the players he loves. It’s holding us back.

Change his name to Kieran Trippier (y)

I said in the match tread that on this form he’s currently in, he’s one of the worst defenders in the Premier League. He’s been utterly atrocious this season and the last few matches, he’s hit new lows every match which you’d think cant possibly happen but he’s managed to do it. Dont know what’s wrong with him since the world cup if it’s lack of rest or what not. All i know is he needs to be dropped and it needed to happen 3 weeks ago. Enough is enough.

I don't even think its bad form. I legit think he is just this bad at defense. Shit like this has been happening for years now.

He's never been good defensively, he's too slow and not very good positionally defensively unfortunately. He's got a great right peg but struggles to get into good position offensively against better sides to use it effectively.

Sick of his crap 1v1 defending. Sterling passed him like he wasn't even there last night.

If you'd seen a Sunday league player make a mistake like he did for the header v Sterling you'd be irritated but a professional footballer earning thousands of pounds a week is unacceptable.

Unfortunately he's going to play again v Wolves on Saturday as Aurier will play tomorrow.

God how I miss peak Walker and Rose from 16/17.

Could have got a mint for him after the WC, I'd still sell in Jan and use the money to replace Wanyama/Dembele.

You just can’t be a top draw FB in the PL without pace. You will always get exposed in one on one. At least it’s been majorly highlighted and I’d imagine he is now on thin ice. Said for ages as we have Aurier/kwp I’d convert him to a midfielder. Can easily slot in on right of a 3.

What annoyed me even more than the header was the pathetic stiff leg challenge he made in the box when Sterling beat him. It was just all round atrocious play from Trippier, 6 minutes into a huge game which ultimately cost us the 3 points.

Then, he had the audacity to scream and point and blame Lloris.

I've long suspected Trippier is an extremely arrogant football player who thinks he is far better than he is. A few good games at the world cup against average opposition, and a freekick or two and he thinks he's world class. He's a very average player who occasionally looks good, a bit like Davies unfortunately.
