Not a good price in the current market imo however, we have made a good profit on him and good luck to him.

Next we need to offload Aurier for a proper rb overhaul.

£21m for Tripps ain't bad business. Form dipped last season, and a change is probably what was needed all round. My only worry is, if Toby and Rose leave also, that's a lot of first team defenders to replace in one summer.

Good luck Tripps.

Just saw it come up on SSN...

Fare thee well Kieran. I wish you all the best and thanks for the service. I hope you see out your career with success in the sunny Spanish climes.

I think Tripps will do great in Spain. I'm not sure whether it was due to his injury or coaching, but last season he seemed so reluctant to put balls into the box, which has always been his greatest asset. If he's given licence to whip them in I could see him racking up loads of assists for Morata and Felix, and Atletico's defensive style will prevent him getting so exposed.

Best of luck to him! I can barely think of a player who was better at hitting crosses on the volley - some of those first time balls he put in at the Bernabeu were absolutely filthy.

Fully appreciate your point but last season Liverpool’s fullbacks were clearly their main assist providers. Playing the inside forwards attacking three, which I what I think we would like to play, we would need our full backs to be assisting regularly. This has to happen with a flying front line. The cut backs would only stall attacks in this ‘Liverpool’ system.
Man City obviously play very differently with a ton of skill full players that can unlock a goal from midfield with a pass or drop of the shoulder at any time.
I also appreciate these numbers are crazy good for a FB, never mind both, though.

The wider picture is also interesting. Expanding to the top 20 on each list. We still only had one player in each category (freak City 5, Pool 3, AFCB 2, even Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal with more). We did so well to get the results finish top 4 last season! We def need higher All round returns next season. Less injuries will help for a start. Width and line breaking a must.

Oh, yeah, I should have mentioned them because it's a good and fair point.

But they're massive outliers. Perhaps even the exception that proves the rule. There's very few teams other than Liverpool that rely on consistent, tangible attacking output from their FBs because it's just not sustainable. Like, the odd one might pop up with assists here and there, but holistically it's not a consistently reliable avenue to goal, but the possibility means that there's the threat, and that's what that discussion about FBs i referenced was about.

@thefierycamel for me, pace is massively overrated. Even in FBs. Give me one that can read the game and is positionally good over one that is a pace merchant every day of the week. And I didn't say that Foyth would have to just play the ball from beyond the halfway line. He's capable of playing passes into midfield from more advanced areas as well. I wouldn't be surprised to find that he has a decent cross on him when it's needed as well, but we just don't know that yet. Like any FB, it's the timing of when to move forward that is most important, not how fast they can get back on the cover.

I'll also be interested to see how we set up out midfield this season because that will have a large bearing on how defensive or attacking our FBs will be asked to be.

I've always refrained from being too negative about our players whilst they're playing for us but I have always believed he has a ceiling below what we should be aiming for and that is reflected in his fee. Wish him well and thank him for his time here but we need better players with a stronger mentality if we're going to progress.

Personally feel he’s been a decent player for us. Probably a good time for him to leave though. Wish him all the best

Sad to see him go as a person but it's right for the squad and him. He needed a fresh start and this is a good move.

a good move for Tripps.

could turn out to be a good move for us, depending on who his replacement is.

Norwich recently signed Sam Byram from West Ham. Decent RB, played well at Leeds before stagnating at Hammers. Could that signing free up Aarons for us? I hope so.

Im not his biggest fan but respect his hard work etc. Im glad he isnt going to some shitty team but a top team and following my trip to Madrid in May/June, it is a great city to be in. I think he will be a great success there.

In my generally rubbish opinion, I don't think he ever got over being Kyle Walker's understudy from a mental point of view. He was always second-best in the fans' minds too.

It's a decent amount of money for a transaction that suits both parties. It's not Paulinho/Soldado level of Levy value-extraction, but it is still cash to go back into the pot.

He's not the attacking full-back we crave, he is not and never was or will be Kyle Walker.

This is one of the most bizarre transfers of all time. does he speak Spanish? and why on earth do they want him. To be fair against everyone apart from Barca and Real he'll probably only make 3 mistakes per game instead of 15 and might get a few assists. All the best Tripps.

The goal against Watford when we started to believe we could win the league was a great moment. We know his failings, but good luck to him.

Respect everything Trippier has given to the club. Yes he had an off season, but I only wish him the best and hope he has a great career in La Liga.

Thanks for all your hard work KT.
