He actually were quite recently selected to the Brazilian squad - after not being included for year - and even played :)

He was brought in when someone dropped out. And that was most likely as Brazil were using Hotspur way. He was then left out of the following squad In November.

Personally, I can't fault the work he puts in (always seems to put a shift in), but I don't think he makes the right decisions on the pitch enough to be a nailed on regular.

An impact sub and rotation option will be his limit unless he starts creating more. Not enough quality crossing and incisive passing and dribbles away possession a bit too often. IMO With his qualities, he should be hurting teams a lot more often than he does...seems to be falling into a similar squad role here as he was at PSG, which is a bit disappointing.

Even though it was a good deal, I don't think it was as much of a bargain as people thought retrospectively.

I can still quite vividly remember a time when Simon Davies and Andy Reid on the wings as starters was our most exciting prospect, now people are whining that Lucas Moura isn't a good enough substitute???

Davies was a quality player. Injuries robbed him of a few yards of pace, but early on he looked like he could be excellent for us.

At the time yeah, but it had been a bleak few years, in reality he was a hard worker who scored a few goals, which at the time was prolific for us. Mind you those days we were lucky if our strikers hit double figures in all competitions!

Today's fans really are spoiled to be debating if Lucas is good enough to be our sub.

Alright mate. I deleted my post regarding Moura in the daily ITK, wasn't really in keeping with thread. Anyways...

Saw a little article this morning comparing Moura and Mahrez. A very relaxed comparison article in all honesty.

The gist being that they were pretty much equal in the goals scored dept, but Mahrez has assisted 4 more goals.

Like I say, they didn't go into much detail of how many games played this season or mins to goal ratios etc. But what it did highlight was one cost £23 million and the other well over £60 million.

I guess what I'm getting at is, Pulisic may, or may not have a higher ceiling than Moura, but IIRC, we've been told before via ITK that we have/had to be smart in the windows.

On that basis, ignoring performance ceilings and Pulisic, I'm thinking the reason we signed Moura was because he offered value for our money.

Feck Pulisic, I'm excited to see what heights Moura can reach.

I’m a fan too. Not a screaming, clutching at the knees fan, but someone who feels we got good value for money with a technically gifted player who’d lost his way at PSG.

Also, this is his first full season so blowing hot and cold doesn’t surprise me too much. I like that he offers pace and directness, versatility and goals. He’s a great squad player and will hopefully rediscover his early form when we lose Son for a few weeks

This season, when some of our first team players have been out (for whatever reasons), their replacements have done well.

Without Lloris -Gazza has done well.

Without Dier, Dembele & Wanyama - Sissoko & Winks have done well

Without Verts - Davies has done well playing as LCB

Foyth, KWP and Skipp have also done well especially when you consider their ages and relative inexperience at the top levels of football

And when Son was unavailable earlier in the season, Moura had done well and that is why I think he will do well again when called upon during Son’s absence.

Well you took my quote completely out of context and I have not “turned” on him. My simple observation is that his form has dipped in last 6 weeks AND if it carries on at this level then imo he isn’t good enough to be our 1st attacking sub. You can’t compare it with someone like Kane looking sluggish as we have 5 seasons of Kane good form to reference. With Moura we currently probably have a 2 month period where he has looked good. There’s a reason why PSG bought him and then sold him and there’s s reason why he isn’t currently making the Brazil squad. And that reason is inconsistency over long periods to date in his career which is why he cost £25m not £60m. Hopefully he can get back to his early season form.

Think that's harsh. PSG didn't buy him and sell him. He was there for years as a first team regular. It's only when the neymar and mbappe fanfare came that he struggled for game time.

In addition his form for us brought him back into the Brazil squad...not away from it.

I think Moura can improve, he basically has everything going forward if he can add more goals then we're talking.

For me he loses possession more than he should and there needs to be more end product, but he's always a threat and creates panic in the opposition's defence. Lots more to come from him and hope he can stay fit as he seems to get clattered a lot by defenders who can't catch him!

People are comparing him to the FIFA version and expecting miracles, I'm sure of it.

So he’s been with us a year now, what is everyone’s thoughts?

Personally I have been thouroughly underwhelmed. One very good game versus Man Utd and a couple of nice dribbles in the champions league but very much a player on the periphery of games. Given the hype surrounding him from a young age I expected bigger and better things. Hopefully he can have a bigger impact in the second half of this season as I think were gonna need him.

He's a talented player, but one with holes in his game.

Pluses is that he's got a good number of goals, seems to have integrated well into the squad, and also better in the air than expected.

Minuses, he too often gets bypassed, doesn't seem to know what runs to make off the ball.

Hopefully he can still get a little more out of himself, otherwise he'll just be a good to decent PL player rather than a really good one.

Looks a year older to me. :sneaky:
