Mousa Dembele contract situation at Tottenham is being monitored by Juventus.

The Italian champions were hugely impressed by the Belgian’s performance against them in the Champions League earlier this season, when Dembele was outstanding in the 2-2 draw in Turin in February. Juventus won the tie, but it is believed Dembele made a huge impression on their technical staff.

Dembele’s current deal at Spurs expires at the end of next season and the 30-year-old midfielder said recently that he was unlikely to discuss an extension until after the World Cup.

Juventus are looking to strengthen in midfield and although they would ideally like to reduce the average age of the squad, they have been frustrated by the failure to close a deal for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, who is set to be a free agent this summer.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, general manager Giuseppe Marotta said: “I am asking myself what the situation is. We want to conclude this soap opera in around 10 days. The player is right to evaluate all opportunities, so we will wait and see what he wants to do.”

Dembele has been one of Tottenham’s best players in the second half of the campaign and has been described as a “genius” by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Asked last month about his future in north London, he told Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure: “At this moment, I am very happy at Tottenham. I do not lie when I say that I do not think about a big transfer. I want to play a World Cup and afterwards we will see.

“Really, I’m not aware of the interest of other clubs. And, besides, I told my agent to wait for the summer to tell me about any offers. For now, I’m only focussing on Tottenham. Maybe this is my last season. Or maybe I’ll sign a new deal. We’ll see.

Lewis has pretty good sources at spurs so i’ll assume this is true. I’ll hate to see Dembele leave but with his contract, age and injury problems I could see the sense in letting him go

It all just sounds like agent work in contract negotiations to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if he signs on for a year extension to his current deal. I wouldn’t have thought we’d want to give him more what with his injury problems.

I'd be gutted - clearly need to think about long term replacements but on his day he's probably our best player and having him around as an option as we transition him out would be vital IMO, and I'm talking a multi-year transition, nothing shorter

If he goes and Toby goes, it'll effectively mark the end of the Belgian era (thank God for Verts!) which has given us such a solid core. Mores the pity

Ooft, it will be a very sad day when Mousa goes. That feeling of power you get just from watching him. Indestructible at his best. And, despite my early season scepticism, we've actually seen him at his best this year.

In terms of like for like, I think he's irreplaceable. The only player I can think of who is equally adept at getting out of tight situations is the man he replaced, Modders.

Juventus?

He’ll find domestic Italian football a lot easier but for that mob? Not sure.

Moussa is a true CL quality player

We should keep him for as long as we feel he can play 25 games plus a season at the level he has played in the second half of this season

Him and Eriksen are what makes our midfield tick

Juve is a home for older players that others were too shortsighted to see had a few years left - Pirlo the obvious one - if they like him it’s a sign we should keep him imo

Toby off, Dembele off, Rose off... crikey, wasn't expecting this sort of shake up. Wonder who we've got lined up.

The only possible reason I could see for Pochettino letting Dembele go is that we are planning to bring in some quality addition(s) in CM. Selling our best central midfielder, even if he's getting older, won't make us progress next season. I'd rather we keep him while integrating a new CM long-term. Even if Dembele only can play around 20-25 matches a season he'd still be massive asset for us.

If we sell Dembele, we'll need two new CMs. Challenging.
Little faith in us getting one before deadline day never mind two.

I hate it when we leave ourselves work to do because of the way we leave it so late. If plan A and B goes tits up late in the window we're scrambling with no time to sort the situation out. The Aurier transfer for example could have easily gone wrong late on.

Yeah, the unofficial lingo is Sissoko-gate.
