Mousa Dembele contract situation at Tottenham is being monitored by Juventus.
The Italian champions were hugely impressed by the Belgian’s performance against them in the Champions League earlier this season, when Dembele was outstanding in the 2-2 draw in Turin in February. Juventus won the tie, but it is believed Dembele made a huge impression on their technical staff.
Dembele’s current deal at Spurs expires at the end of next season and the 30-year-old midfielder said recently that he was unlikely to discuss an extension until after the World Cup.
Juventus are looking to strengthen in midfield and although they would ideally like to reduce the average age of the squad, they have been frustrated by the failure to close a deal for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, who is set to be a free agent this summer.
Speaking to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, general manager Giuseppe Marotta said: “I am asking myself what the situation is. We want to conclude this soap opera in around 10 days. The player is right to evaluate all opportunities, so we will wait and see what he wants to do.”
Dembele has been one of Tottenham’s best players in the second half of the campaign and has been described as a “genius” by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Asked last month about his future in north London, he told Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure: “At this moment, I am very happy at Tottenham. I do not lie when I say that I do not think about a big transfer. I want to play a World Cup and afterwards we will see.
“Really, I’m not aware of the interest of other clubs. And, besides, I told my agent to wait for the summer to tell me about any offers. For now, I’m only focussing on Tottenham. Maybe this is my last season. Or maybe I’ll sign a new deal. We’ll see.
