RMC reporting that we have an agreement with a Chinese side for Dembele for £30m but it's up to Dembele:

Mercato: Tottenham agrees with Chinese club for Mousa Dembélé

Tottenham has agreed with a Chinese club for the transfer of Mousa Dembélé. But the player will choose his destination after the 2018 World Cup, while Juve is also interested.

Head to China next season for Mousa Dembélé? In any case, Tottenham has a financial agreement with a Chinese club for the Belgian international. An offer of 60 million pounds (not including taxes deducted in the Chinese state), which equals 30 million pounds (or 34 million euros), arrived on the table Spurs at the beginning of summer mercato.

But the player has not yet discussed with this club, and will choose its destination after the 2018 World Cup in Russia . He leaves the Chinese track on hold and is also interested in Juventus. Moreover, his agent takes advantage of this waiting time to probe foreign markets, including the Italian market. Juve, who likes the profile of the player, seems to be in Serie A club most interested without, for now, have made a firm offer to the club London.

Pochettino does not want to keep it

Mousa Dembélé is still tied to Tottenham for a year. The Spurs are pushing for the Belgian to accept the Chinese offer, because they know they will have no better offer for a 31-year-old player, who has only 12 months of contract left. In addition, his coach Mauricio Pochettino does not want to keep it because he prefers a more effective profile against the goal, with more physical impact and less nonchalant in the game. In short, even if it is certain that he will not extend in the Spurs, it is the London club that would see this sale in China a good eye, not the player, who does not wish to extend the adventure in Tottenham.

Nonchalant, it does sort of fit doesn't it.
He does rather give the impression of nonchalance but I'm not sure Poch thinks anything like that.

Hope this China or Italy deal is true and could be wrapped up soon. Ready to start getting the wheels spinning here.

For circa £20m I'm not sure why we would be willing to sell.

A younger player of comparable ability would command an exponentially higher fee and it wouldn't be like us to sign an older CM of proven quality. That means we'd be likely to either downgrade or make a massive net loss.

Because he wants to leave and we'd likely rather 20m for him than let him go for nothing in a year

The ideal situation would be to keep Demeble for another season to see through Onomah's hopeful transition

Eh, I think its time to find an upgrade to Dembele or figure out how the team can work without him. Its true that he can be a fantastic player and has an amazing skill at ball retention but we are utilizing him in a position where we should get more offensive output from. He had zero assists or goals last season. I know its a bitter pill to swallow but we should be aiming for better than Dembele at this point.

Reports where ? Unless you tell us where or from who how can we judge the value of these ‘reports’. They could be rubbish.

Dembele would have some Chinese admirers. A club from China would have even found an agreement with the Spurs for the transfer of the player.

And if Mousa Dembélé (30 years old), the Tottenham midfielder, followed in the footsteps of his Belgian teammate Axel Witsel, who went to China last year? Indeed, according to our information, a Chinese club would have found an agreement with the Spurs for the transfer of the player. The Belgian, whose contract ends in June 2019, could end up in the Middle Kingdom in exchange for 30 million euros. However, the club in question would still have to find an agreement with Dembélé.
Ndombélé in replacement?
In case of departure of the Belgian, who, at thirty, would probably sign his last big contract, Tottenham could accelerate on the Ndombélé file. The midfielder, loaned by Amiens to Lyon last season, still has an uncertain future.

You can throw goals and assist at Dembele, he is normally the the pass or drop of the shoulder before the assist. I reckon we have another season from Dembele before passing on the baton to Winks and Onomah

I think we're better off without him. I know, everyone says he's amazing in training etc. He's fantastic at what he does, I just don't think what he does helps our play. The ball often takes an age to pass through him, he slows our play up too much imo.

Kinda sounds like we want to shift our midfield more towards the Eriksen-Winks-Alli/Eriksen-Winks-Sissoko stuff we played vs. Liverpool and Real Madrid.

He's one of the best in the world at what he does (if not THE best), but that doesn't mean that we can't be just as good, or better, without him.

It will just be different. Not going to find a like for like, so start thinking of the best options for another way to play. Instead of carrying the ball out, it will be guys who are quick to pick out an outlet pass and dictate it that way.

I fully understand what you mean however when Dembele doesn't play you certainly notice the difference.

Well we're not used to playing without him yet. Once he's sold and the team are well used to playing without him or with a replacement, I'd like to see much faster transitions.

Would be a great fit for Dembele, would be an upgrade over Khedira.

Not the way Khedira's been playing the last couple of seasons. He's been fantastic for Juve. Has more to his game than Dembele. Not an upgrade, but I do think he'll do well.

I'd also add our IMO our two best performances of the season, home against Madrid and Liverpool, were both played without Dembele in the lineup.

£30m to China would be perfect.

According to Kristof Terreur Dembele wants to leave as he doesn't think he can cope with another year in the PL and it's his last chance at a big deal.

China for top whack ticks all the boxes, doesn't leave for prestige and can't come back to haunt us in the CL.

It's impossible to judge like that though really, one of our other great performances was United at home and he was there for that, plus he was immense at home to Arsenal too and we lost to WBA without him. Not that they reveal whether we're better or not with or without him but I'm just saying it's hard to come to a conclusion with such thinking based off few examples.

I'm not sure I believe that replacing Dembele will all of a sudden speed up our play, there are others in the team who don't move the ball quickly enough either.
