Ex-Player Watch Player Watch: Mousa Dembele

Yeah, agreed. Putting my onions here because the ITK thread will be on the fast track to lockville in a moment here.

Curious if it is a return to a club like Fulham or an upstart like Wolves. We've been told he wants a long contract and big money (though what that is is anyone's guess). Of course he also has to accept the deal and terms which is sounds like he has been rather picky about this summer. Fulham would be a big return, let him stay local. I'd like that for him if it happens. Will be interesting to see what happens now.
To me, the Fulham thing makes the most sense. He'd offer that midfield something, let Cairney play his natural game and bring some decent experience to that midfield.

I don't know who the club is but I was talking to someone the other day who said Fulham are buying and thought Dembele would be a perfect buy for them to consolidate in the prem, makes you wonder.

If I had to guess a team I'd say Wolves or Fulham.

His ailing body can't be relied upon now unfortunately, and with Winks/Wanyama having bad injury luck, something has to give.

hope he earns himself a nice packet if he does move, he deserves it.

Well, bit worried that Pep said the other day that City are still after a midfielder...and it seems a very City thing to do

Speaking to a Fulham fan very recently, they are exceedingly happy with the business they have done but feel they are short at CM and this is their biggest weakness....

Given Dembele has said he wouldn't want to play for another Club in the Premiership... I could see his club as an exception...

Gunna miss him so much. Been a superb player for Spurs, but can’t help feeling he could’ve been more (injuries aside) and should’ve scored many more goals.

I think a lot of people here will be spitting feathers when they realise the Dembele replacement is already at the club.

Based on pre season, I’m convinced Pochettino has taken a look at England / Man City and thought 433 looks tasty and I have the players for it. Dembele suddenly becomes obsolete as he’s neither progressive enough for the 8 or 10 slots that Silva and De Bruyne play, not is he defensive enough to do what Fernandinho does. He’s a double pivot player where you pair two all rounders together.

Think of it this way:

GK
RB RCB LCB LB
Dier
Eriksen Dele
RW _____________ LW
FW

FW
RW _____________ LW
Winks Grealish
Wanyama
LB LCB RCB RB
GK
That’s two very good DMs, two brilliant ACMs and two of the highest potential young ACMs in Europe.

That would certainly explain why Poch has been so keen to add a wing forward, if we don't get one in we'll be very short in that department to be able to play this formation effectively.

A very sad day, one of my favourite players. A majestic midfield player. Real top quality and will be sorely missed if he goes.
He’s not even going to be replaced by a top quality new CM is he??

Very sad times. A huge favourite of mine over the years. I understand that injuries have started to catch up with him though. :(

He will always be one of those players that reminds me of spurs under poch at their best. That roar from the crowd when he gets the ball in a bit of space and drives forward. Nothing like it.

This explains why we need one more winger, we only have 2 really with Lamela as hybrid AM

You should’ve seen Ginola back when whl had atmosphere then.

Has been a great player for us but it's been clear that he is struggling to be fully fit for a full season and this is only going to get more difficult for him. This is also the last window (probably) that we are likely to get a decent fee for him. As sad as I will be at seeing him play for another Premiership club - if we have a good replacement lined up then it makes sense to sell him now.
