Yes but how is productive in any way to constantly bang on about it? Its not particularly insightful to point out how shit he is every time he steps on the pitch; and it sure as hell isn't gunna help him or the team to perform better. May as well get behind him because the manager clearly see's him as an important member of the squad.

I don’t think we are trying to be productive on here. At least I hope not.

I am naturally a very positive and optimistic person and when translating that to watching football (in particular spurs) I like to see the positives each of the players bring to our club.

However I am really struggling with this lad. I of course want him to do well, and each time he does something remotely good, I think “this could be it, the kick on he needs to get the required confidence this game needs in order to be a good player, let alone top player”. But then he reverts back to what has become he natural game..... below par performances.

I hope for one of two things:

1) everything clicks into place and he starts. Turning in performances on a weekly basis like we saw for France at the Euros.

2) if the above doesn’t happen, I would like him sold in the summer.

Sadly I have more confidence in point 2 becoming the reality out of the options above

His attitude seems really good, which is weird because Newcastle fans painted him as a ****. I like him and don't think he's that bad. I think the fact that the rest of our team is so good makes him look a bit oafish at times.

It does seem that some people have a real irrational dislike of him.
He does have some good traits, mostly mental and physical though I must say.

Like you said his attitude is good, and he's a likeable guy. We all know in terms of technical execution he is severely lacking but I do think his decision making is often decent enough and more often than not he is unselfish. The same cannot necessarily be said of our other attacking players. I like players who look like they are bothered and put a shift in and you can certainly say that about Sissoko at least.

Overall I don't think he's good enough for us but I certainly won't be castigating him for his (in)ability alone as his attitude seems exemplary to be fair. You can't say that about Llorente who just ambles around hoping someone will plant a cross right on his head.

The main issue with Sissoko and it’s not necessarily his fault is Poch has been playing him in attacking positions and given his complete inability to make precise passes and/or little deft touches he’s a recipe for disaster. Against the better sides you need to take your chances and when bambi on ice is part of your attacking outlet you’ve got problems, hence the frustration when he more often than not makes a hash of situations. He reminds me of Zokora, likeable guy whom for the most part tries but you’re left scratching your head wondering where he actually fits in. He just doesn’t fit our shape and/or tactics and due to this his inadequacies stand out like a sore thumb.

He did assist the first goal, yes it was a deflection but the pass would have reached Lamela had the defender not got his foot In the way. I'm not a fan of his but he plays for my team and I'll support him whilst he's on the pitch.
At least I see when he has done something that helped the team to win, unlike most supporters on here.

It will be interesting to see if he is the player to drop out the squad now that Winks and Toby are back and Poch seems to be making positive noises about Moura being involved on Saturday.

Although I suspect Poch values his versatility so he'll still manage to make the bench and one of the above will miss out due to lack of match fitness

Would he get in to our all time best ever shitty player X1? over the last 25 years?

Doubt it. An awful lot of crap has made it into our midfield in fairly recent years. Sissoko would struggle to make the grade. Toda. Mabizela. Gilberto. Ghaly. Zokora. Dalmat. Boateng. Saib. Sad thing is, I know there are a whole lot more that will come to mind the minute I hit "post reply".

It wouldn’t surprise me if Sissoko stayed in the 18 every week until the end of the season. As you say, Poch obviously values him and it’d be odd if he dumped him out now if everyone was fit. Will definitely be interesting to see what he does, even this week with everyone fit and ready. There will be a few upset players come Saturday morning.

He's quite possibly one of the worse footballers I have ever seen at Spurs and I couldn't give a shit how many negative ratings I get for this. How can anyone back a player when he can't even do the most simple of things and that's pass a ball to our players properly. The ball bounces off his shin like a pinball machine because he has the worse control I have ever witnessed. Sorry but the only comeback anyone can say when trying to stick up for Sissoko is " But there were worse players " .... well that goes to show how piss poor he is, if the only bit of saving grace is that there are "worse players" .... no he's dogshit and is stealing a living as a footballer
Nope, he’s a good player.

We love the way he seems to take a few tiny steps before kicking the ball, I say love, it actually makes us laugh. This is probably not a good thing.

Come to think of it, It actually makes me wonder how a player who is supposedly the worst to ever pull on a Spurs shirt, a player who is so technically bereft, a player who is undoubtedly guilty of everything from the Jack the Ripper murders to shooting J.R Ewing, how such a player keep on getting picked, week after week.

What does Pochettino know that SC doesn't? What does he see in him that SC can't? What does he bring the team that SC doesn't understand? I have absolutely no idea as to the answers but what I do know is, nor does anyone else on SC :D

Could one theory be that it was at his behest that Levy committed something like £53m to the Sissoko deal (30m + 90k 5yrs) ?

Another could be that Pochettino, whilst being a lovely fella, doesn't get everything right ? He kept playing Townsend instead of Lamela for a big chunk of his first full season, including in a cup final.

I think pretty much everyone thinks he's crap :D Or, to put it more accurately, not of the required standard for this team. I think perhaps its the tiresome, over the top and repetitive nature of the criticism, often even on the odd occasion when it isn't warranted that mounts people's breasts. For example he was nowhere near as bad was some people would have you believe against Newport but still, he's shit, he was shit before the game kicked off, he was even more shit during it and by jimminy he was triple shit after the final whistle.

I just think if he had an OK game or one of his better performances, its OK to say it, there's no need to go over the top, there's no need not to acknowledge it, it's OK, doing that won't detract from his overall 'shitness' and he'll still get his ration of abuse on another day.

Before anyone negatively mentioned Sissoko in the match ratings thread, posts 7 and 10 were:

Sissoko played very well I thought, but Lamela just edges the MOTM. Great performance from him :)

In answer to the MOTM question:

So, who starts the tiresome, over the top and repetitive stuff ?

Nobody started off pelting Sissoko, but various people seem hell bent on winding everyone "who thinks he's crap" up with this silly drivel, which I wholeheartedly support their right to spout, but you can't then complain about what it generates or that this is a one sided "tiresome, over the top" fest.

He created the first goal didn't he? And it was a good dangerous ball that Son (I think) would have scored from if not deflected in by the Newport defender trying to stop it.

Pretty important goal. We only got one other.

Not saying he was MOTM or anywhere near it but the the facts point to the opposite of your supposed point - he was actually quite handy in that game yet still copped all orts of shit while, say, Winks - a much better technical player, turned it over multiple times - yet doesn't receive any criticism from the likes of yourself.

Anyway. whatever - the point is not whether Sissoko is a great player or not - it's that Poch has found a valuable role for him that Poch repeatedly says he's fulfilling. The problem is that some Spurs fans can't recognise that role and just slag him off and then get all angry when he keeps getting selected.

Poch would just point to that goal created and tell you to go fuck yourself.

Imo.

Winks did cop shite, including from me, in the ratings thread.

Please stop with the "some fans don't recognise the role he's playing" bollocks, this is really fucking tiresome. Poch isn't playing Sissoko in some highly nuanced or complex tactical application that involves a PHD in sport trigonometry to comprehend.

Like I said, it could be the fact that we've got 50m+ riding on Sissoko that is keeping him around the first team right now, or it could just be that Poch doesn't get everything right. Or it could be that the majority of us and some well regarded football journalists are mistaken and you and Poch are visionary's who are living in a parallel footballing universe in which shit technique, poor tactical and positional awareness and a complete lack of vision are actually qualities of value.

I think everyone is over analysing things here. He has a very basic skill. Run with the ball at an opposing player. He proceeds to scare opposing player senseless. His problems start from this point. What to do with said ball. This is where he falls down. Is there a quick fix to this problem. I don't think so.
Most obvious response from Spurs. Sell next window. Will it happen? I bloody hope so!
Gut feeling though. Not so sure.

I think its quite the scandel that we have Sissoko making a generous living out of playing football whilst conversely @Bus-Conductor with his infinite footballing wisdom is not. How can that be explained? Perhaps we are the ones living in this parrallel universe.

I reckon @Phomesy and Poch are visionaries in a parallel universe BC but not with the qualities you describe. I think Poch actually knows what he is doing. Which is why he manages Spurs and you, like the rest of us plebs, merely armchair critique every thing he does. There is no conspiracy to keep playing Sissoko.

Lay off FFS. Sissoko is not that bad as you and others make out. It’s now becoming fucking annoying hearing the same shite commentary after every game when my eyes are telling me something different. At least give some credit to a player that wears our shirt and puts in an honest shift.

I think so far in 2018, we are starting to get the real sense of how Pochettino actually rates him. Out of 540 minutes of PL footie for Tottenham in 2018, Sissoko has featured in 187 minutes, and otherwise he has been playing 2nd-rate opposition in the cup.

I'm not a massive fan of Sissoko. Wasn't before he signed for us. Having said that he was fantastic for France at the Euros, so we know there is a good player in there somewhere.

The issue I have is that when he plays, he seems to make others around him nervous or look worse, quite often he lays the ball off too quick and plays it into someone who has opposition around them. Perhaps he is too nervous to show his true capabilities because of the reaction he gets. I dunno, just something doesn't seem right with him. His first touch is awful as well, he tends to need 3 touches to get a pass/cross/shot away.

I think he is an ok option on the bench for games where we need to inject some energy but I just think he has zero confidence at the club.
