He has improved greatly this season but will never be at the level we require. Not good enough technically, rarely provides game changing moments and panics when it looks like he may score. A few years ago I remember him being brilliant when Newcastle beat us at White Hart Lane. He was taking on defenders and beating them for fun but seems to have completely lost this ability.

I noticed that this thread is active after the match yesterday. Looking for a scapegoat, ey? :ROFLMAO:

It’s active because he started a PL game for the first time in ages, just like most of the other player threads are active.

For me, he made 2 great passes in the game but did nothing else positive of note. He lost the ball a good few times but then so did everyone else last night.

It was as if Hughton had told his players ‘Don’t worry when Sissoko has the ball, concentrate on everyone else instead because he won’t cause us any problems while he’s in possession’. He had lots of space, made himself available etc which was good but didn’t do anything with it, bar short sideways or backwards passes 99% of the time. Not his fault, we all know his limitations, but our style of football changes drastically with Sissoko in midfield. There’s a total lack of fluidity. Dembele came on and made more forward passes in 2 minutes than Sissoko did the whole match. Again, not Sissoko’s fault that he was played but in my opinion we become a worse team for him being in it, no matter how good or bad he plays, purely due to his limitations as a footballer.

Are people saying he had a good game or a good game ‘for Sissoko’? The through ball to Aurier in the first half was excellent, why can’t he do that more often? That’s the first time I think I’ve ever seen him put a ball like that (successfully) through. Until he starts doing stuff like that more often, he shouldn’t be starting for us. Any professional midfielder should be able to do what Sissoko does for us, and also have a lot more to their game.

So basically, he wasn’t particularly bad last night and he certainly wasn’t as bad as a couple of the others who were awful by their standards but it’s just that he doesn’t play any better than that, ever, unlike the other players who were bad. You know what you’ll get with Sissoko and unfortunately, in my opinion, it isn’t very much and certainly not good enough for a team challenging for trophies.

And before anyone mentions scapegoating, please read again properly before you pipe up. A player thread is made to discuss a player. No one is saying we lost purely because of Sissoko.

So much potential to be a disruptor and ball winner given his physique and fitness but woeful when asked to play make. If someone can get him a role destroying play and using his physical attributes better he could be great for an everton style team. Fully imagine he will go in the summer.

But when have you seen him actually put his foot in and tackle? He isn't even a disrupt or like wanyama. At least he hasn't played like one. He jogs between players with the ball without really closing them down or putting pressure on them. I agree with what has been said, he just isn't for us.

Yup, one of the most predictable things on this site is when we suffer an adverse result you can bet that this thread gets bumped no matter how he played, it is just how it is.

What’s more predictable is people moaning about people commenting in the Sissoko thread after he’s played a game, even though it’s his first start in ages. There are currently 7 player threads on the front page alone. Are people moaning about people commenting in there too? And there are plenty of positive Sissoko comments in this thread too, even if I don’t agree with them. Absolutely no idea what the problem is.

Moaning about a SIssoko performance after an actual performance does make more sense.

Wasn't the worst yesterday but people are gonna scapegoat regardless so what can you do.

This is the only argument for him ever playing - "he wasn't the worst player today". That's exactly the standard of player we need for a club competing to win trophies

More of a rebuttal for the 'Sissoko was the worst player on the pitch' people when in fact there were others who were worse than him.

This thread is like a punch bag for people's rationale's, it never fails to deliver.

Was he the worst player last night? No, probably not - but that’s not the point. He’s not a good player who’s had an off day, like most of the squad, but rather a mediocre player.
