Poch:

Then comes a question about Moussa Sissoko.

“I think first of all I am so happy the fans start to show the love for Moussa. I remember a few games here, the fans... we are here and we feel and listen. For Moussa it was not so positive. I remember one day I hugged him and said he will be a success here. All the players have the potential. But they need to feel confidence, the grass, the love.

I wonder how the Newcastle fans feel about him now?
Just goes to show that having a decent coach/manger who believes in you can give you the confidence to improve your game.
He’ll never have the super slick technical ability but his attitude is 100%.

I’m worried I’m starting to fall in love with Sissoko, what happens if I’m in bed with my wife having cuddles and his name slips out?

I thought it would pass but after Chelsea and now Inter it’s getting worse!

strange, at the start of the season and throughout last season, I'd groan whenever I saw his name on the team sheet. Now if he were to be injured, I'd be really upset.

Hope he keeps it up, but never have i been so wrong about a player before

I dreaded seeing his name on the team sheet. Also generally questioned his ability as a general footballer (that’s how bad he’s been for us). However the form he is currently showing is so good to see and makes me question my own ability to judge footballers ability.

Although I do need to stress. He’s been playing soooo well for us in the last two months. But he really was poor before and over the last couple of seasons, and I think the criticism he received was on the whole valid. But he’s turning this around and I am very proud and pleased for him. Hopefully he can maintain this level and push on.

Nah it wasn't, he played well in the Bernebau and at Wembley against the same opponents, he played well against Everton last season (0-3) plus a host of other matches as well if I can be bothered to go back yet didn't get the plaudits because people were too busy overlooking the fact that Moussa Sissoko could ever be one of our best and effective players and those same people already had their mind made up, I remember this shit.

I agree and disagree.

He has been very poor - technically - at times. Honestly, he still is. But, most of that is down to how Poch was using him. Poch, and Sissoko, seem to have found the right balance. Sissoko does not attempt more than he can pull off, and Poch does not put him in positions to require more technical ability.

The result is that Sissoko is, and always has been, good at what he does - powerful runner, willing defender, capable support player. When he plays with those limitiations in mind - he does all of the well. Its when he gets stuck in tight situations, requiring nimble feet, and tight control that Sissoko looks like he has 4 left feet.

Today's goal was a perfect example - strong, powerful run - but Sissoko did not attempt more than he could handle, and dumped the ball to Dele, rather than try a shot, or some trickery. Result - goal.
