Well well.. one of the best players on the pitch in a huge game. If you wouldn’t want him back you’re absolutely mad. He’s class!

No matter how good he performs it's obvious that Poch won't take him back so you might as well stop dreaming lol

I didn’t say he was a con artist now, I haven’t watched him since he left, but for me he did hide at Spurs, he did fail to take responsibility and he did pass the buck to his teammates constantly. This might have improved with game time, but as far as I’m concerned Bentaleb did a lot superficial graft which actually had little impact on the team in either direction.

Come on, this is nonsense and you know it.

Decent talent with good athleticism but ultimately was a bit of a hider. Converse of Winks in terms of on-pitch attitude. It’s not about how many touches or passes, I’m sure they’d be comparable between the two, but about where you receive and play the ball, and in what circumstances.
This is bollocks. His on the pitch endeavours could never be put into question.

His problem was clearly off the pitch concerning his naivety and desire to play every game.

I clearly don’t know it, but this is just going in circles, no point hammering am away when our views couldn’t be further apart. For what it’s worth (I didn’t watch last night), if he is blooming into a top class footballer then a) I’m pleased because I always want our academy products to do well and b) hopefully it reaches Pochettino a lesson and he persists with someone like Edwards.

Putting in a shift isn’t just how many km you run, it’s how you run those kms. As for always showing, that shouldn’t be conflated with taking responsibility. It’s easy to take the ball in areas where there’s no pressure from the opposition and you won’t be expected to do anything with it other than return it to the original passer.

I see you're getting a fair bit of stick for your views but I know where you're coming from. Back when he was playing for us i described him as a player who played as if he was totting up his passing stats in his head as the game progressed. I think he was pretty awful defensively and very competent at everything else. The defensive vulnerability wasn't really his fault because it wasn't 'his game' and we didn't have alternatives. The only reasons I wouldn't want him back are his ongoing temperament issues where he sulks if he doesn't get what he wants and the injury history. Both are things that are unlikely to be fixed. I wouldn't be disappointed if it was decided to give him another shot though if Poch thought he could use him.

Paulinho was a different kind of hider, but no, to the various patronising suggestions that I’m confusing the two, I am not mistaking Nabil Bentaleb for Paulinho, I just think Bentaleb was a con artist who gave faux effort and endeavour but didn’t massively affect things, like a Jamie Redknapp. I’d liken him Jenas without the semi decent goal return or ability to carry the ball forward.
He could definitely carry the ball forward well. Literally one of his best traits was his dribbling from deep.

It sounds like your talking about Sherwood Bentaleb not Bentaleb as he grew into the roll. He was a real talent, he's yet to fulfil it.

TBF to le gin and toey they have always been consistent in there dislike of Bentaleb, they also have tended to be in the minority.

On Bentaleb actually coming back, I'm not sure. Bentaleb has kind of stuttered at Shalke mainly because of injury but has also been very hit and miss. He is a much more attacking player there and scores a very good amount of goals for a CM but needs to show more consistency. He has a lot of ability and wouldn't be a terrible idea to bring him back, but there are a lot of players out there who are of a similar standing.

For what it’s worth I was gutted when he stopped buying into the Poch programme

I saw him have some fantastic games for Spurs.
Covering literally every blade of grass away to Benfica and as a 'boy' playing like a man and bossing the midfield v Henry & Sandro away at QPR are just two that come to mind

Was/Is a talent who could have played for the biggest clubs...

His fallout with Poch was similar to Toby's situation. Both were illy advised by relatives of demanding contracts that were not agreeable with the club.

Likening him to Jamie Redknapp is like saying Bobby Soldado was on a par with Harry Kane or that Sergei Rebrov reminded me of Clive Allen

Redknapp never put a shift in, might have messed his hair up
