More people need to pay attention to the youth thread. It's usually around the first page so no excuses. :ninja:

We have one of the best academies in the world. Our under-18's are monstrously good this season, our U-21's were phenomenal last season and we've got tons of great players coming through who will deserve game time in the next few years. A manager who is willing to promote youth players is a necessity for us, or all of this goes to waste.

And we should definitely be thinking about bringing Carroll back in January. But I think i've said that before.

Bentaleb specifically is a great prospect and very mature in his play. That we haven't given him any time in the cups this season is testament to how bloated our squad has become.

This is the main tangible benefit of having Sherwood in charge.

He knows the youth players well and knows if they are capable of stepping up.

Andre was terrible at using them, even worse than Redknapp and since it's such a strong part of our club strategy, it makes sense to give game time to youngsters with serious promise.

Saying that I would be astounded if any fan would like to admit that they thought it was a good idea bringing Bentaleb on today, in this match, in that situation with no defensive midfielder on the pitch! Credit Sherwood for bravery/chutzpah, it was OK in the end.

Im guilty for not paying much attention and I will have to change that as I was so impressed with the lad today. I would hope we have some very promising defenders coming through as well because that is quickly becoming our priority area.

Tim said in his interview with BBC (i think) that Bentaleb has been ready for the first team for a while, but it's just very hard to get a chance with the players we have. Said he isn't sure what is next for him whether its a loan or more chances with us.

This could be the one thing in Tims favour for getting the gig. We know how proud Daniel is of the new training complex and the fruits that it can bring. If Tim is committed to bringing players through as well as keeping consistency with first team results, it could be the thing that swings it his way

I saw him in a few friendlies pre season if I'm remembering correctly and I was impressed. Today he reminded me of Modric the way he received the ball and turned with what looked like no effort at all. It's still early though, there's no pressure on him yet.

I thought he was excellent. Honestly, if you were going on pure merit....he'd be right up there in terms of the other options. At they very least on the bench against West Brom.

I think this was one of the big reasons in the sacking but Sherwood shipped out Pritchard to swindon, which I dont agree with.

I would of loved of Pritchard, Carroll and Bentaleb being in and around the squad but not possible with so many fringe players. Also easier keeping the youth team players happy than first team players that cant buy a game. Last season Pritchard was among the best along with Ward-Prowse, Januzaj and etc. whereas he is the only one who looked a talent last season and not in the top 2 divisions

Haven't had a chance to watch the game yet but I'm not surprised at all that he did well. He is composed on the ball, hard to get it off him and not afraid to put himself about a bit either.

We have a lot of good youngsters who could do well for us, if only managers had the cojones to give them a chance so credit to Sherwood for that. This year we have had Townsend, Carroll, Kane, Fredericks and now Bentaleb come in and look really bright and I think some of the others could do a job for us as well. Signs are good.

I think Swindon has been good for Pritchard his playing well getting games in team full of our youth I know it's div 1 but they play really good footie Swindon is a great project for spurs. Pritchard has talent his getting exp of what it's like to play a whole season. We have so much talent coming though good times

Thought the young lad looked good today.
Like to see a bit more of him.
One for the bench and bring on in the next two games.
Good luck to the young lad and hope he makes it.

it was an incredibly ballsy move, avb wouldn't even risk it in a dead rubber europa game.

AVB has mentioned him in the past but I don't think he's eligible for the Europa League until next month.

It's good to see him get some playing time, hopefully the seniors will respond and step their games up.

Yeah, think Bentaleb will have been here long enough to be "home-grown" in January so he would've needed to be registered in the 25 man squad to be eligible for Europa this group stage. Can understand why he wasn't.

Love this photo. Players like this are what we need in tricky periods like these.

Spurs through and through.

I was surprised that he played but not particularly surprised by the performance. So many on here underestimate the quality and readiness of our young players. Over-cautious.

Credit to him for a great debut but he isn't really a product of our academy is he? Though he was signed. Just like Januzai and Man Utd

I think Andre really missed a trick with not giving these kids game time in the Europa league group stages.
