Can see Barcelona slipping into mediocrity similar to in the early 2000's.. think 02 season. Something has seriously gone wrong there and it's very saddening.

Ter Stegen
Semedo Pique Umtiti Digne
Busquets
Paulinho Rakitic
Messi
Alcacar Suarez
Granted it's not exactly their 2011 side, but it's still pretty formidable.

Paulinho may be much more motivated there than he was at Spurs and look quite a bit better.

The only thing we know for sure though is that he's spineless and in a team where winning the biggest trophies is the measure of success, he will be found out eventually.

this theory was posted on Reddit earlier, and now taken up by a Barca blog: https://www.barcablaugranes.com/201...rsonal-gains-paulinho-transfer-news-guangzhou

Josep Maria Bartomeu Floreta (Barca's president) is a partner and CEO at ADELTE Group which is into designing, manufacturing, supplying and maintaining airports, seaports and road transport operations.

Apparently, ADELTE Group is expanding into China and bidding on projects like the Ocean Flower Island being built by the Evergrande group which also happens to be the parent organisation of—you guessed it—Guangzhou.

There are rumours that Florentino Perez’s ACS Group was also bidding for the project, but with the Paulinho transfer concluded, could be handed over to ADELTE Group and/or associates.

so, effectively a bribe. The fee is a lot - but it's also Paulinho's release clause and Guangzhou don't want to sell as the window has closed there and they can't replace him (and didn't before the deadline), and they are closing in on the league title.

Comparing that side to Real's or even Atleti, it just doesn't seem appropriate for a club of such magnitude. Take Messi and Suarez out they would be struggling. Busquets is the only other genuine world class player, pique loses his head too much these days.

And all of a sudden Levy's business brinkmanship - in selling Paulinho to Ghuangzhou for "cost-price" - does not seem as impressive...

They must have seen his shot at Burnley away and realised it's an upgrade on Neymar

It's saddening that they aren't developing La Masia talent that makes the first team these days. That was the best thing about Pep's side.

I look forward to seeing how much he's obviously improved...:cautious:

TBF he did have a great slow motion highlights reel.

It was only when we got him here we realised the highlights weren't in slow motion :p
