I was critical of the Mason and Bentaleb pairing last year, the whole "but they were in a side that finished 5th last year" argument doesn't wash with me, in my opinion whilst they both had a handful of exceptional games our finishing position was more in spite than because of the two.

Totally agree. Ive never rated Mason or Bentaleb as anything other than average.

thought ryan was our best player against atletico, combined really well with a few sharp quick passing moves and direct runs into the box. And showed some defensive quality with some nice interceptions and looked to get around the pitch a lot better.
He did have some sloppy passes and touches, but if he stays healthy this year I think he'll surprise quite a few
