So if we remove the Brighton pen, it's two penalties. One where he had to make a challenge, and one that was rash. Is that enough to label him as giving away stupid penalties and error prone etc.? I'm not sure it is.

If, if, if...

There's no narrative about "fixing" him, it's just a call for patience.

Some of his decision making hasn't been great, but then Trippier has probably been pretty similar.

Same thing keeps happening? He's made more last ditch tackles to save goals in those kind of situations than he's given away penalties. I'm not saying we shouldn't care about the penalties, I'm just bringing some context to it, because most of you seem to just go, "HE GAVE AWAY ALL THE PENALTIES, HE'S SO AWFUL, AND BAD AT DECIDING THE THINGS" and that's not really the full picture.
I like him, think he just needs a full pre season and more coaching. Poch is the full back whisperer.
Didn’t see Brighton game but disappointing if he gave away another pen there as 2 or so a season in challenges he probably had to risk is ok but 3/4 and the majority of them Rash would mean he’s a little unreliable and not learning.

Rumors that Leicester are buying Pereira from Porto who it seems we were choosing between last summer. Will be interesting to see them both in the Prem next summer if that move does come to fruition. Serge needs a full off season forming an understanding with Dier/Sanchez and who ever we play wide right. Think he can come good but he's going to need to work his ass off to achieve it.

Totally agree, people are too quick to write off Aurier before he has a proper preseason with us. He should have ample opportunities to improve at Spurs this summer as Ivory Coast are not in the WC. Aurier will definitely have to work his ass off this summer as KWP looks like he is ready to step into the RB/RWB rotation. If Aurier and KWP reach their potential we will have quite a tandem.

A proper preseason will help Serge in many ways, he will get fitter, work better with the rest of the defence, and he may even learn to deliver a more accurate ball. However it will not remove his constant desire to dive in (like an absolute shithouse) giving away penalties and dangerous free kicks, which is the biggest problem with his game imo

People wrote off Son after his first season... and many others

Problem is KWP needs & deserves to play - and Trips has been a good servant to us, while i still see something in Serge. Tough decisions to make in that area.

This guy has the raw materials to be a good full back, for sure. What's incredible is his 'brain fart' ability, though to be fair I think he got very unlucky with his pen against Brighton

If (stress If) he can cut that rash element out of his game, and he wouldn't be the first player to improve massively in that regard, he could be a very good player. He needs another season I reckon

Aurier was fantastic in the first leg against Real Madrid in my opinion. Kept Isco and Marcelo at Bay. We tend to forget that. I don't fault him for the penalty kick, Kroos had an open shot at goal and I yeah it was a hail Mary challenge but someone had to do it.

Aurier can definitely become more disciplined but I really like his grit. I believe he can become a great player for us. All our full backs have improved under Pochettino I don't see why Aurier would be the exception.

I think a lot see Aurier had the right attributes and needs a pre-season, but the brain farts are what need to be eliminated

Physically strong but impetuous in some games and needs to improve his delivery not unlike some of other recent right backs. Can he ever be our first choice in a side we hope can win the league? Unlikely.

I'm fully on board the sell Trippier train.

Poch doesn't do any coaching, tactics or fitness work during September to May. Basically he just gives the squad a ball and some jumpers for goalposts and let's them run around a bit.

That's why the 4 week period known as 'off season' is so transformative and where players get their new stats for the new season edition.

I like Aurier, I want him to stay. He's solid. Just maybe occasionally as solid as a colander. But otherwise a really good baller.
He might have his strengths, though we are yet to see much of them, but solid is the last word I'd use to describe him.

If they want to sell one of them I think it should be the other way round. I believe Trippier is a much better prospect than Aurier. He's improved a lot this season and his crossing is a lot better than Aurier. Southgate might even make him first choice over Walker at the WC.
