My opinion being that pace is massively overrated by some here, including when looking at a player like Kyle Walker...who I'm so fucking bored of reading about.
Pace can’t be massively overrated, simply because it’s so important. A good quick ‘un always beats a good slow ‘un. And Walker was a fantastic player, for all his faults.

I believe speed of thought and technique is more important on the pitch than physical speed, it's one of the reasons why I think Aurier will never make a go of it here. He is slow of thought (that's actually apt and kinder than my usual description tbh) and lacks technique, his touch is actually horrible.

When you throw in poor decision making, I just don't think it's a good combination...and although quicker than Trippier, I think it's actually not that much. I've yet to see any kind of real pace from him.

The guy I'm sick of reading about (KW) is (IMO) biased by positive nostalgia and is all over the forum pretty much all the time. You still see him falling asleep at City and failing to deliver decent balls into the box (he mostly plays it quite safe) and as he has tonnes of quality around him I think he looks bit better between the mistakes.

Mmmm? I'd argue Charlie Corluka was every bit as good as walker both forwards and backwards... And he was sloooooooow.

Charlie had Lennon in front of him. My favourite player in decades. But you’re right, that was a lovely combination. I remember that game where AVB (I think) played Zokora at RB against Young, it went horribly wrong, so he brought Charlie on and Young just disappeared. But I also remember Charlie playing Centre Half against Drogba, where a ball over the top gave Charlie a 10 metre advantage, and Drogba was past him in two strides.

I do love a footballer versus an athlete, but I really think we shouldn’t have to make such a stark decision these days.

Yeh I rember that game. I think he was a lovely footballer but point remains his positioning was outstanding and he very rarely got done. Very few footballers have all the attributes. Bale being one we've all had the pleasure of.

Jesus Christ.

It's like you're really Kieran Trippier and Aurier has been tanking your misses (and she loved it)

Until they start putting on speed restrictions on players, then pace will always be useful to have. I don't see how it can be a negative, people dress it up and say, "oh but so and so has better positioning", if pace gets you out of trouble it will be a useful asset to have. I don't think there is that much difference in speed between trippier and aurier, but aurier is more tenacious in the tackle and has better defensive mentality.

If by more tenacious you mean worse and gives away more fouls, then I agree.

Mentality? Defensive mentality? Really? I just can't see it tbh. He switches off regularly, more than KW did tbh...and he doesn't have the pace to get away with it.

To his credit, he doesn't seem to go to ground quite as much lately...but still does too often IMO. The risk/reward ratio just isn't high enough in his favour.

Also don't think he learns from his mistakes quickly enough.

I think a lot of people on here massively overrate the importance of pace in learning...

Corluka would be horribly exposed by our high defensive line these days. Likewise Fazio didn't do well here but did well before and after he was with us. Lack of pace has done for Trippier on numerous occasions, particularly since his positioning can be suspect as well. Aurier has a bit more pace and also crucially (and never mentioned), he's way better than Trippier in the air.

Was unable to watch large portions of the match but glad to hear he played well. The Trippier injury may be what the team needed to get Aurier and KWP consistent game time. I don't wish an injury on anyone but this may end up being an eye opening experience for Poch.

Lets hope with a performance like that, this will sideline Trippier for a rather lengthy period

Praise the guy by all means, but let’s not use it to have a dig at another spurs player, he might not be in the best form (and injured) but let’s get behind the whole team as it’s a long season and we are going to need the whole squad

We won FFS lets just enjoy
