Have people not learned anything with the difference between last season's Sissoko and this one's. It'll take some time and patience for Poch to get into Aurier's head.

To everyone saying he only left PSG because of off the field stuff, this is not the whole story.

The reason some of the off field stuff happened was because Aurier wasn’t an automatic first choice and this gave him the hump and caused him to bitch and whine and generally be a pain in the arse.

And the reason he wasn’t automatic first choice was because of the flaws we are now seeing.

This was my initial objection and I said as much. I've seen loads of Aurier, I think he's got some good qualities, but we all know that KWP is very good and very highly rated, what I questioned was why pay 25m for a player with known flaws (inc some character flaws) that will require a year or two of Poch to improve, when we already had a very highly rated kid here who within that time and work form Poch could end being even better and we'd be 24m better off instantly, then add the 25-50m that KWP could be worth if he turns out to be better than Aurier.

Go back and read what I said. I liked Aurier, but it seemed some to me were lauding this signing without ever really having watched him play a full proper game or two. He has always been flawed, and on top of the same kind of flaws Walker had until Poch got hold of him, he's also coming in from a different country and league and playing ACN every two years.

We had a highly rated player here who has been training with Poch for a year or two already, who's ceiling is potentially higher than Aurier's, is from this neighbourhood, isn't going to need time to learn a language, fit into a culture, isn't going to start blabbing off about using us to get a bigger move within five minutes of arriving.

The only discernible difference between this season's Sissoko and last season's Sissoko is we have no fit midfielders here right now.

Poch does improve players, better than most coaches I know, and he could improve Aurier, but lets not Pretend Sissoko is suddenly great. He's getting game time by default is all.

But also, lets not pretend Sissoko is still utterly useless. He has been very useful, in fact.

not meaning to take a shot at aurier here but if kwp had put in the same performances he has then i think we'd be hearing a lot about how he's not ready, needs to go on loan and learn the game etc.

i'd love to know what the plan with kwp is because it's not like trippier and aurier are old, trippier's performing very well and coming into his peak whilst aurier's capable of playing at a decent level but still has some room to grow and improve so where does kwp fit into this equation exactly? at the start of the season quite a few were saying trippier will probably be gone the next summer but as it stands that's neither likely nor advisable and aurier's not going to be moved on so soon after signing, even if he does struggle a bit.

In as much as he’s managed to find his way onto the pitch and not kill any of his team mates I guess you could say “useful”.

Maybe we have different criteria settings. But in terms of what I think we require at our (Spurs) level, he is woefully short of the skill set I would expect would be good enough for a midfield role.

I think Aurier is showing promise. I certainly think he is an acceptable replacement for Walker. I also suspect that with final tweaking, Aurier might become a goal threat on his own, he has been so close a couple of times and it's just about margins. However, I think it is very sad that we haven't seen Walker-Peters again at all. To me it makes little sense.

Porch likes big, powerful lads. Aurier and Sissoko meet that requirement, KWP doesn't. Rose has always had the physical side to his game, so gets away with being on the short side. Can't see Edwards ever getting a chance.

Because Eriksen, Son and Winks are monsters themselves.

You are ridiculously demanding, expecting a midfielder to control the ball with less than 10 touches or to get within 50 yards of the goal when they shoot from the penalty spot.

Your views of players abilities are always heavily clouded by your like or dislike of them. Your may claim that you like Aurier but you really dont because he is taking the place of kwp. Every player makes silly mistakes. To imply that Aurier's always makes such errors throughout his career lead me to doubt you actually watch him played as many times as you claim.
Just as you claim to have watch Sissoko play many times and he could not play in the centre of midfield. Just not true.

No. My like or like or dislike of a player is always heavily clouded by their ability. There's a (not very) subtle difference, do you get it ?

I guarantee you that I've seen shitloads of Aurier and Sissoko, almost certainly a lot more than the people who scouted them for spurs. I said before Aurier got here that he makes errors, can be rash, does what's happened so far not bare that out ? Sissoko played no more than 10-15 of games out of about 200 as a pure CM in a traditional CM2 system at Toulouse. He spent the rest of the time very much as a rotating AM in a 4141 diamond system. I believe ccasionally at Newcastle he played in a CM3 but vastly more in the attacking 3 of the 433. And we all know how good Newcastle were.

I've said all along, even before Aurier went to PSG that he has good qualities, and back then I even mooted him as a possible replacement for Walker as someone who has similar qualities but can be marginally better (he's younger).

This isn't about home grown v bought. It never is. It's about logic. I believe KWP has the potential to be better than Aurier (and Trippier and Walker for that matter) and I believe that Aurier has not developed on much from three years ago, therefore, even though I acknowledge Aurier is still further down the development line, stronger physically, he still needs to develop, and under those circumstances I would have rather spent that time developing a player I believe with a higher potential ceiling, one with a better game brain.

Is that really so hard to understand.

If Trippier had started the season on fire do you think we'd have bought Serge? Because at that point Poch would have had a top starter, KWP and Dier.....my sense is that Trippiers slow start may have contributed.

Go to admit he has not impressed me at all since joining, looks like a downgrade on Walker.
Trippier has been first class though this season and would be first choice in my eyes. Serge still has a lot to prove for me.

Wasn't Trippier still recovering from injury early on ?
