It's nothing to do with needing a whipping boy, it was genuinely one of the worst individual defensive performances I have seen in a long long time. Fortunately we have Trippier and KWP, because if we were relying on Serge he would cost us a lot of points this season.

When you say a while do you mean when he played last season?

Yesterday he was terrible but he also showed if he just composed himself he could be good. Last season he was terrible in attack and defence his crossing was terrible so I’m not sure if the cross was a fluke.

He needs to come good quick as there are 2 far better right backs already at spurs.

He is perhaps the most damning indictment of our scouting system. We knew for at least 6 months we needed to replace Walker and decided Aurier was the guy. I think some blame must lie at Poch’s door as well as it can’t be coincidence we keep buying and being linked with physically strong and technically poor players, that must be coming from him.

I think he was good at PSG why has it gone wrong, watching goals on Sunday big Sam was saying how foreign players struggle first season, hopefully he will sort it out there where glimpses of a footballer yesterday sadly though he is very erratic a defensive liability currently. I hope his sold soon or sorts himself out how can KWP do worse?

He got exceptionally lucky that Kenedy shat his pants when through on goal to make it 2-2. Comes around on the cover, no danger at all, can either put a foot on it or clear his lines, and instead decides to head a ball that was about at knee height and presents a prime attacking opportunity to the opposition.

There is just too much of this littering a 90 minutes, taking the most ridiculous or wild option, and getting himself and the team into problems. I'm not surprised people are getting tired of it, because he just doesn't seem to be learning. And you have to say that we thought we were getting an established, experienced, international RB in his mid 20's coming into his prime, I don't think the expectation would be on some large-scale development project to get him fitting the bill. We had (have) someone for free who was that already at the club.......

The cross yesterday was a peach and shows he has ability, but very much the anomaly. He's got to settle down and just improve exponentially, because this first year has been far too chaotic.

I’m starting to think he might be a bit of an airhead... Has all the attributes, makes mistakes over and over again, doesn’t learn from them or adjust.

Is Aurier going to be this season's Sissoko?

More like last seasons Aurier unfortunately

One game and all that but for me there are some things that need months on the training ground and a proper pre season hasn’t addressed based on what we saw yesterday - namely positioning and concentration

I think all of our full backs are much better at wing back. It won't be long before Trippier's defensive performance is being questioned if we stick with a 4 at back.

Started the thread and was excited to see him. Seen enough of him. KWP has to be in front of him. Time to be brave.

Dier has that reaction to anyone around him when he makes a mistake these days - even did it in the world cup. He's turned into the DMC we were expecting when Poch first put him there a few seasons back.
well that foul wasn't a mistake at all by Dier, a dangerous counter was on, he had to bring him down, and was right to be annoyed with Aurier.

Dier was fine yesterday. Had a good first half actually. Got worse as the game went on though. Not a bad performance considering he was the only CM on the pitch.

I’m a little surprised at all the Aurier criticism. He has his faults but he’s a good fullback. He gives it everything and takes risks but that’s who he is and Spurs knew that when buying him. The decision was that an attacking aggressive fullback is what we need.

I get frustrated too when there’s a gaping hole on our right flank. But when you have a guying bombing forward and aggressive like he is, you sacrifice a little composure and safety. Ultimately, that paid off yesterday. He assisted the winner and was not responsible for the goal conceded.

He’s a great option to Trippier. Depending on the opponent we can pick the ideal right back.

Was a mistake to buy him when we had KWP. I think his purchase was a reaction to selling Walker.

I think he tired give him a few weeks his fitness will improve.

KWP is too weak to be a defender. I didn't see any indication in his previous games that he's ready. Not saying he won't be in the future
If Trippier was injured, would you we comfortable with KWP defending against someone like Chelsea?? I certainly wouldn't

He was MoM in the same fixture last year. So imo he’s ready.

In the last game of the season, where there was nothing at play.
We were hardly attacked and he was more of a winger than a RB
I’m taking about the opening fixture last year, not the last game

That's just way too much of a risk though, he does what he did against Newcastle every game and there'll be goals coming from that side way too often, there has to be a balance. There's literally no point in being so aggressive going forward if you're leaving massive gaps behind you so often, the best attacking fullbacks have a much better balance.
