Odd all round. He's supposed to return to Korea for 21 months of military service before he turns 28. Which would be July 2019.

Heung-min Son has put pen to paper to commit his future to Tottenham with a new long-term contract until 2023.

Son, 26, has signed a new five-year deal to remain in north London after becoming one of Mauricio Pochettino's most lethal forwards.

The South Korea international struggled during his first season in England following a £22million move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, scoring eight goals in 40 appearances.

However, Son struck 21 goals during the 2016-17 season, and followed that up with 18 more last term to make his mark in the Premier League.

Deal to 2023. He must be getting out of his military service.
Or we have found an insurer to underwrite the risk of us losing him as an asset - either way the fact its signed means we must be comfortable with the situation

Son will now join up with the squad ahead of our tour of the United States where we will compete in the International Champions Cup against AS Roma (San Diego), Barcelona (Los Angeles) and AC Milan (Minneapolis) and will also be available for our opening game of the Premier League season away at Newcastle United before travelling to Indonesia to represent South Korea at the Asian Games.

Great news regarding him being available for Newcastle. Takes a bit of pressure off us in an attacking sense if we do decide to give Kane an extended break.

Who knows what’s going on with the military service, but one thing’s for certain and that will be that he won’t be getting paid by us if he’s off serving it.

Fantastic news. He had a really good season last year and deserves the reward for it.

Brilliant news! Love Sonny, such an underrated player, doubt we could bring in anyone for under a 100 mil that would be better than him. UTD can keep Martial we have Sonny.
Hope Lamela and or Mora can impress while he is away.

What fantastic news that Sonny has signed up for another five years. He's been a brilliant buy for us and he only needs another three goals to reach his first 50 (I think thats right...). I'm so happy with this news. I remember jumping out of my chair when he scored the second goal in S. Korea's wonderful victory over Germany a few weeks ago. That was one for them, and one for us too. Contracts hold a lot of contingencies and so forth within so I am guessing it reads something like “contract is void if you are called into service”.

Smart to keep him on if that isn’t the case though.

Love the man and excited for this year!

Good news, now we need some additions to take us nearer MCity.

Well, I've taken the bold move of removing Bale and Martial from my signature team and given the current lack of movement, put everyone back in their usual positions... and added Grealish. (Risky I know, but I'm er optimistic...)

So apart from some fairly obvious sales, (outgoings) I find myself wondering who exactly have we been linked to apart from Martial, Grealish and Zaha... was there anyone else to hope for?

I assume we have had some confirmation re: military service then? Apologies if already mentioned
