If we're going for prem/CL qual and winning the EL, we'll get neither. All indicators this season have pointed to us having to shift our eggs into one of the two baskets (Europe or domestic).

The squad's not right for that yet; 2 key injuries and we're fucked again. Too precarious.

100% this.

We might be able to get away with fielding a full strength side in the FA Cup towards the later stages if the draw is kind in the 4th and 5th round.

But the Europa, no chance. History keeps telling us this but people just don't want to listen.

I'll rather have the trophy.

Difficult one regarding the EL.

I want the trophy, so personally i'd like to go all out - especially now we've missed the shitty group stages. We can do the business here if we try. This also gives us a CL spot of course. However, it sounds silly, but do we really want the CL next season at Wembley? Would it not be better to get a really tough season out the way with as little obstacles as possible and go into the new WHL after a strong league finish?

Obviously the financial aspect of getting top 4 again is huge, and the club and players will want it, but i'm not sure what the outcome would be, especially if we don't bulk up the squad with actual quality to see us through a tough year.

Think you're right the squad cannot cope with so many gsmes, we're not there yet but I don't think we should sack it off completely, it depends who we draw I'd say.

Play kids/fringe tomorrow tonight, is my point. I don't want to drop into EL.

I think RE Europa, either take it seriously or not at all, if we half-arse it then we wont get anywhere in the competition and our league form will take a hit. If we choose to ignore then just play the kids and let them get some game time and experience with no pressure even if it is for just two games.
I say this at the start of every EL season so agree x 1000

Bah, I call shite. History keeps telling us that we enter the competition with no real desire to achieve anything, which is the worst approach of all. Let's join the EL knock outs and go for it, I say!

My memory of the last few years has been us not resting key players in the group stage and then paying for it when out first team is dying on its ass come March/April, meaning that we have to put out players like Tom Carroll against teams like Dortmund.

Our best period in the league under Pochettino is normally always the period of time between European competition stopping and European competition starting.

To me that says we don't have the squad to do well in both. This season's CL campaign is enough to tell us that, too.

Even when we took the Europa seriously we could only get to the Quarters. It's a shitbag of a tournament and I'd much rather we get a CL place again via the league and maybe a crack at the FA Cup.

Does it? Our form last season was good throughout the season and only tailed off when the league had gone and that was weeks after we got knocked out of el

Last season was different. Pochettino threw the Dortmund game because we were going for the league.

FYI that was only the Round of 16. We would have had to play another 5 mid-week matches to win the thing, with a first team that gradually was running out of steam.

"All indicators" presumably including the fact that after more than a third of the season gone, and having completed all but one of our CL group games (without some key players) we're still just three points off third, and four points off second. And Liverpool haven't had any of those games to worry about.

I'm aware it was the round of 16 and FYI we have never got past the 1/4 finals so how does history tell us that the extra games will ruin our season when we have never played them extra games?
