To make sure they get him. If they wait 3 or 4 clubs could offer the £25m. If they offer £35m early we may accept and they’d fight off the competition.

Exept that all the clubs will have already offered Toby the contract that he wants so whoever he decides he wants will just play the waiting game. We could accept £100 million from say an Everton, fact is unless Toby wants to go there it’s pretty pointless.

I dare say that it’s not too dissimilar to the situation when we got him even though Soton did all the leg work.

I don't think the bigger clubs care about the waiting game anymore. FFS Chelsea could have waited 6 more months to get Ross Barkley on a free, and yet they spent £15m to acquire a player recovering from a massive injury without a minute of match time in 8 months.

There is a massive premium on short term success. And this isn't a bang average, injured midfielder with rocks for brains; we're talking about one of the best defenders in the premier league in his prime. I'd be disappointed if we sold him for anything under £50m.

If we take Poch at his word, he's missed out thus far due to fitness and form.

ITK and papers are saying there's a fallout but could be blown out of proportion. Rose was welcomed back, so why not Toby. Depends what excactly has gone on.

Mate...

the two bolded bits-

You know what Poch says, and you know why he says it...and I'm pretty sure you know he doesn't always tell the truth when he says it.

Do you honestly think we're going to see much more of Danny Rose in a Spurs shirt? The first opportunity we will have had to sell him since the "episode" will be this summer, and I'll be astounded if he isn't sold then. I'm fairly sure that he was welcomed back purely because he's a multi-million pound asset who couldn't be sold yet, and we were minimising the depreciation of that asset.

Re Toby:
I agree that it depends on what has gone on. If Poch wants him to stay, I can see us keeping him another year despite the clause. But if he's made it onto Poch's naughty list, he'll be joining Rose at the bus stop this summer.

Sanchez situation tells you something else. He’d agreed to go to city but united jumped in. Somebody could easily jump the line and offer him more. If it gets to that situation there will a line round the block. Imo whoever really wants him will have to jump early. And the likely event is if a team jumps early they are a big club that don’t care about an extra £10m . If it’s between PSG and Madrid it will likely come down to wages not postcode.

He had a great game. Would like to see him, Jan and Sanchez as back 3 Saturday. The guy is 29 years old. He really wants to finish his career off with some major trophies. He is looking on this realistically, and you cannot blame him for seeing he has interest from major clubs both here and abroad, to want to explore those avenues.

I know for a fact he loves it here. And do not believe the media BS that it is purely down to money. If it was just that he would of signed already.

From Mourinho's previous comments he likes to target Sanchez as a weak link. A back three sounds a good way to go. A solid defence and hit them on the break.

More media s*** stirring.?

Reliable Belgian outlet [Het Laatste Nieuws] understand Tottenham Hotspur refused the Belgian defender the ‘possibility to speak to sections within the general media’ after Spurs’ draw against Brighton.

Pretty sure heard the release clause only kicks in last 2 weeks of window. So we could still get £35-40m next summer if s club wants to assure they get him.

Other way round, if the release clause really is a thing, then it's before the final two weeks, not in the final two weeks.

Has Rose really been welcomed back though? To me, Poch has tried to kill the story by having him around, but has totally lost faith in him.

To Poch, his squad togetherness is everything. It's like putting together a team to go the South Pole. You don't bring guys who are going to be hiding away their own stash of food, or have their own helicopter come in and get just them if things get tough.

It's kinda hard to say either way given Rose has barely been able to prove his fitness. But when he has been close to fitness he's had games and been in squads. And other players have been flogged at the first opportunity, Rose wasn't close to leaving in January.

We've already had one chance to sell him, he went nowhere in January. And it'd be hard to argue that selling him in the summer wasn't to do with his complete lack of fitness. But like you say it completely depends on what's gone on and how Poch really sees it. He's never gonna come out and say they're goners because if they are being sold we'll need to command as high a fee as possible. I'm just willing to believe that he could be telling the truth.

Such a non-story. Of course you wouldn't let him infront of the media right now.

Yes but the Sanchez transfer came down to wages not transfer fee.

Well yes exactly...if for example Utd offer him £200k a week and him and his agent provisionally accept it and but PSG put in a £50m bid for him payjng £150k a week prior to the clause window and we accept it, it doesn't mean he will accept that bid because he knows that he's got a better offer elsewhere. All Utd will do is wait until the clause window opens and bid £25m and pay him the wage they originally agreed on.

That £25m value works well in his favour because him and his agent will probably get a huge signing on fee as well.

I swear the Belgian media are the whiniest bitches around. They’re always complaining about things to do with their players and not just those at THFC.

It's strange as since the Brighton game I've seen him more in social media or mentioned more by his peers and he's in the video recently released by Spurs online. Maybe it's just me noticing it more, I don't know.

But if PSG are prepared to bid £50m they would most likely match wage demands. United also in essence well overpaid for Sanchez. Even though mkhitaryn had been poor he was still 28 under contract and probably still worth £30-35m. Sanchez had 5 months left and true value was no more than £25m.My point is if an oil rich club really want him I just don’t believe they will faff about and take the chance of losing him.

You’re right about that. Its weird but it means nothing. He has 2 feet and 1 arm out the door. He’s 100% off.

The point is that he can go to the team who offer the best package for him, wage, living, football, success so he can dictate how much he earns so for example he will be able to negotiate his wage and with that in mind he potentially has the pick of any club and that club will know that if they reach an agreement with him then all they have to do is make an offer in the clause window. Not saying that that will happen but it's just a potential scenario that we'd rather avoid which is why I think we should cash in this summer.

Don’t be surprised if he signs...

Is this your opinion or some insider knowledge?

I would be over the friggin moon if he signed to be honest, people on here seem calm about the idea of him leaving, but I think we miss him big time. Sanchez has been great, but he is not yet at Toby’s level of commanding assurance.

I have wondered if Hugo’s poor form this seasons has been a result of not having 100% confidence in his defensive line. With Aurier and Davinson at the back, we are certainly more unpredictable.
