Wasn't the back 3 with Sanchez/Jan/Toby the formation we started with last season and we could barely score until we went back to a back 4?
I think Poch often went too defensive while playing it, as in lining up two holding midfielders along with 5 defenders on the field. Drop Eriksen into the Dembele role and rotate some version of Dele/Son/Lamela/Lucas in behind Kane and its plenty of firepower on offense. I don't like using it against teams that are likely to park the bus but it just gives us the option. Plus Toby probably passes better than Dembele or Dier anyways.

we did score 15 goals in those 6 games, 13 coming in 4 games, Everton 3-0, Wet Spam 3-2, Huddersfield 4-0, and Liverpool 4-1, which isn't a bad return

I’d love to keep Toby and get him to sign a new deal. With Verts and Sanchez that is a fantastic back 3. Maybe Poch and Toby can sit down after tomorrow and work something out.

Didn't remember in the Liverpool game @ Wembley we lined up with a midfield 3 of Alli, Winks & Eriksen. That is the kind of stability that the back 3 can bring us and allow us to play a midfield like that and not suffer the consequences as badly.
That was an especially effective formation against Liverpool

Good point... But given the bromance between Toby and Jan they would have found one with both much like Dier and Alli.

I think you're reading in to it far too much. It was probably put together by some social media guy fresh from uni.

he hasn't no, but if (PLEASE READ THE NEXT BIT) Poch doesn't use him, and he gets pissed off with hardly any playing time, he COULD become a bad apple

I should of added to this. as our players get playing bonuses when they don't play they don't receive a bonus if the results go our way, or for whatever is in their contracts (this is not ITK, it's from follow the news over the years). so if Toby doesn't play he won't gain any extra.

if he doesn't sign a new contract I expect it will be because Poch doesn't want him in his plans, we won't leave it a season lose out on 30+m and in general pay 75k a week (3.9m) for a player that might not get much play time. Poch would rather be paying that to some he wants in his plans

I'd be happy if he stayed another year, absolutely. He's still a quality CB, despite his injuries. Should he go for £25m next summer - so be it. He'll be 30 by then and in the mean time we can try to find a replacement (de Ligt or another).

I agree but that can only work if relationships are repairable! Based on itk comments that’s unlikely
