I never actually said Dier never played much, I should of not put it in the same sentence.

This up and coming season our defence will hopefully be a lot fresher and fitter and hopefully better protected.

Next season Toby or not we will survive, if we were talking about Jan I’d be more worried

Look i like Jan but i think Toby is the deal maker. I think they just click as a pair. But yes i do agree with you..well be okay in the end. If we all see the team short comings etc im certain Poch and his team see it too. He'll fix it thats for sure.

Point is that they are going trying to get him for cheap so they can give him a large signing on fee which will offset his wages. Similar to what Juve have done with Ramsey.

That’s a good point.
I was wondering whether more cash upfront might help us drop the price a little bit. The current clause says the £25m has to be paid over no more than 2 years in no more than 3 instalments so we might accept a bit less for a bigger immediate cash injection than £8.33m.

I am really struggling to see why he would interested in going to Roma now.

Just see out the year and go somewhere better and on more money

So odd someone better isn’t in for him, maybe he has really bad body odour or something

we finished 3rd and never conceded as many goals as we have this season

Yes but we had a midfield that had a great season. Not exposing the CBs the same way as last season. Also Trippier had a better season than this one. Vertonghen stepped up and was very good. But for me Toby is our number one defender. Everything is so much calmer with him there, making players around him better.

to be honest I'm not going to throw a wobble if Toby goes. when Toby was out injured in Sanchez 1st season him and Jan did a good enough job. last season the only time Sanchez played was when Jan was out injured or when Poch played a 3. Sanchez struggled with the central role in a 3, and think Poch got it wrong when Jan was out as I think Sanchez would of been better on the left side like he plays for Columbia.

Sanchez will get stronger, and better. Toby will be missed but like everyone he has his bad moments, and seriously not been the same player after the WBA injury or the hamstring. I think 1 thing Sanchez has over him is pace, but needs to improve his distribution. Toby's long ranging passes will be missed but hopefully with a possible new formation we will have a midfield that can drive the ball upfield.

I don't think he has any such interest. Everything points to Toby leaving on a free transfer next year.

1. The first sign will be his involvement in the upcoming tour.
2. The window period to move on is fast approaching, he would be involved in our preseason games over that period.
3. He hasn't put up a fuss or given media interviews indicating otherwise.

Other clubs aren't in for him because they would sound out his agent, who would then decline any approach made unless of course it would be your top tier clubs, Barca, RM, Bayern or ( PSG & City) who are money clubs and not top tier.

This whole saga will go to the wire. Clubs know the release clause and the date deadline, so I expect a number of last minute offers. This situation is favourable to the buying club. We've already shown our hand. It's a waiting game with an obvious and predictable outcome. The only danger for buying club is the possible multiple options available for Toby to consider.

I wonder what Roma's game is here. You take the piss guys, but if a player has a set price of 25mil and it doesn't matter one jot if you lowball/upset his club, why wouldn't you try to negotiate below the fixed price? Especially with so little competition it seems.

No idea whether that's their plan though. Part of me thinks so. Part of me thinks that these second level Italian clubs love to talk to keep themselves relevant and they probably can't afford it. Nevertheless, they will shout from the rooftops about how they tried and the English club/player was just unreasonable.

They're in a no lose situation really. For the price of a couple of flights they could save a decent amount of money on the deal. Even saving quarter of a million would make the trip worth while. If Levy really wants to get rid of him this summer he might just be willing to let him go for a bit less money to save paying his wages for a few weeks and have the extra time to bring in a replacement.

I so hope this means Toby isn’t leaving. The thought of Rose leaving makes it all the more important our CBs are super strong with the Belgians and Sanchez I still feel comfortable with the defense but we get really thin an inexperienced if Toby is gone as well as Rose.

Pretty sure they've been linked with him for ages, and is in addition to Toby. Saw a Roma fan say they want 2 CBs.

Roma seems an odd choice. I hope we keep him even for one more season. Trippier going doesn't weaken us, but of we lose both Toby and Rose it would be a bit concerning.

They've proven themselves season after season. It is good we are looking at long term replacements, but it is a big ask for the likes of Sessegnon, kwp and foyth to all step up with a lot less experience in defence. Would be a disaster if we lost Jan to injury then.

I would be comfortable going in to the season with Vertonghen, Sanchez, Dier & Foyth as our Centre Back pairings. However with Foyth looking likely to move to RB we will need to sign another Premier League level CB.

Roma are in huge debt so no way can they afford to completely write off the best part of £50m on a CB with no resale value (fee and 125k wages for 3 years at a minimum). Probably why they thought maybe they can get some money and Toby for Zanilo and make the best of a bad situation. At least this other chap is only 23 so they can recoup something further down the line.

I expect Toby to be lining up first game, I'd be fine selling Rose and Trippier, using that money for Sessengon (with a bit of change for Lo Celso) and starting the season with 2 of Aurier/KWP/Foyth and Davies/ Sessengon as fullbacks, providing we keep the core of Toby and Jan. Unless an opportunity for a real proven upgrade (Digne) comes about

I guess the question is why was Toby not left at home like Rose with only a week left of his clause?

Tanganga or Foyth could have played CB on tour, it's not like it's competitive. I guess Toby wants to stay sharp so maybe turned down that option.

We defo want him gone...from what i hear...
If that’s the case, along with Jans ‘a age and Foyth being transitioned to full back, we need at least two new centre backs. I see Lyons-Foster and Tanganga on your so maybe they’re being looked at, but I’d be very concerned if we lost Toby without replacing. People might say Dier but he’s been in midfield for a good while, and is another with little time left on his contract. We’re in danger of going from very strong at centre back to very weak.
