I've said it before but i'd be very wary of buying CB's from Southampton. Their system makes them look better than they are.

If we sign him then Fazio, Kaboul and Chiriches all have to go. I think we're OK at the back as it is. Jan, Dier, Fazio, Wimmer and Veljkovic is more than enough.

We are definitely not ok at the back unless I was watching some other team last season. Alderweireld would improve us and he has an international relationship with our other Belgians especially Vertonghen. Wimmer, Veljkovic and Dier are all young and we will have a lot of games again next season. Have no issues with Kaboul and Chiriches being sold as they are not really reliable enough in my view.

Our big problem in defence is the lack of a shielding midfielder imo.

Had a interesting conversation with Duncan Castles on Toby...
He believes Lyall is wrong that Saints are not his preferred choice.

Basically, from Toby's point of view - He wants to be No.1 CB in the line up - giving him the best chance to start in Euros.
He knows he will never be in No1 CB pair, in both Chelsea & Athletico Madrid.

According to DC - "TA is convinced that Tottenham want him. Spurs are definitely far advanced with TA. Ofcourse, Chelsea could still could gazump the bid if they wanted to"

He told some saints fan that S'ton are still in pole position to sign TA

No idea. Am just saying what he said to me. I have been following his articles/stories long enough to know that he doesnt write without proper sources...Willian saga was a prime example

Was very close to someone in AVB's camp. His Spurs stuff has been nowhere near as good since his departure imo.

Oh yay. Another CB signing. Forgive me if im not jumping for joy like the rest of you. Feel bad for CCV and Veljkovic. Dominate the u20 WC, and look more than ready but get shifted down even more. Classic Spurs.

So this is now 3 positions where we're blocking the path(or trying to) for our youth this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino. Champion of the youth:rolleyes:

*i say 3 because if we bring in schneiderlin, we NEED to sell 3 CM's. At most, we'll only sell 2. More likely though, we'll struggle to move 1.

Why are you so negative about life?

The only way it'd be viable, if Fazio was headed back to la Liga for whatever reason. Otherwise we're overloaded.
Dier & Fazio/Alderweireld
Vertonghen &Wimmer
Velkjovic and Carter-Vickers as backup.

Guess I'm in the minority, but I just don't care for him. Perfectly average, and someone we'd be trying to move on in 2 years if we got him.

I'd even rather have Fazio, that's how meh I feel about this guy.

Yep, can't really see why people are so pro this one, don't really rate him that highly as a player and think he'd be much more exposed in our system than the one at Soton.

Don't really see the dominant leadership qualities i'm looking for either, TBH, which is something we're really lacking in.

Totally agree about their structured defensive system. If they had brought in Fazio for instance last year we'd all be moaning about how we didn't make a move like that as he'd look like an absolute rock for them.
