I expect Dier to be competing for a CB spot next season. He will transition to CB for England also - and will have 4 years to do so.

I mean I like Dier a lot and what GB says is interesting but just going on what my eyes tell me and Toby is another level in terms of how he plays defensively, on the ball and how he organises a defence. Toby is the type of CB someone like Utd are crying out for tbh

This seems to be a variant of a tactic of the media, instead of recycling stories and keeping them in the headlines day after day about a Spurs players wages not being comparable so for that reason they should leave for another rival club in this country they are using a slightly different strategy.

They now seem to be targeting Spurs players who have recently recovered from injury, unless Poch puts them straight back in the saddle and the throws them in the deep end by immediately playing them again in all games, they are trying to imply that the player is unsettled and must go to Liverpool Man Utd Man City or Chelsea. They have now begun this strategy with Wanyama.

The contract issue with Toby and Toby not being selected immediately for higher profile games are entirely separate issues, the media have gone out of their way to link these two matters to make 2 + 2 = 5, and if they don't get their way they will move onto another Spurs player to unsettle.

Massive factor imo considering approaching 29 and his history.

14/15- 7 wks hamstring
16/17- 7 wks knee
17/18- 3.5 months hamstring

Considering the severity of the latest hamstring there has to be a concern. Actually had a chat with a physio mate who said you can definitely lose 5% pace from a hammy especially late 20s. Would surely be sensible to see how he gets on rest of season. One more hamstring injury and you would then have to class his injuries as a liability.

I think that definitely alters his value and what contract he could realistically achieve. More than likely he will probably be more injured in the next 2-3 season than he has been in the previous 2-3.

Need to keep quality like Toby at the club. He's one of the best in the world.

Quality, intelligence, experience, professionalism, mentality. Players like Toby will take us where we want to go and are not easily found.

We've done well without him and we should succession plan for sure, but let's not take him for granted. Find a way to give him what he wants.

The evidence suggests that that is exactly what Spurs did, only for Toby's agent to see that as weakness and demand more. (To be fair, the situation's almost certainly become more complicated once the details of VVD's fee and package at Liverpool became public.)

I tell you what, im glad Poch never took Toby to Turin. Looks very rusty atm. Understandable of course, but both today and the Newport game he wasnt his usual adept self.

What evidence would that be?

Probably a good thing for him there's a replay. Looks seriously sluggish. Was excited about his return but he looks miles off being ready to start against Juve, not sure I'd even risk him in a league game. Same goes for Wanyama too.

He is behind Vertongen and Sanchez right now - maybe even Dier and Foyth on current form. We need him back to full fitness for the run in.

He's never been great at LCB to be fair, but his decision making and all round play was pretty poor today, but he clearly had little faith in the pitch after a couple of early slips and was mainly giving very simple passes to Foyth.

Was a bit better second half when Foyth was moved to LCB. Still had some poor moments though.

Can't see how he, Vic or Rose forced there was in to the starting line up for the bigger games to come today, (Rose was the best of the three though, and showed endeavour if nothing else, and kissed the camera twice in a shout out to Ryan Mason )
