Walker and Man Shitty is a prime example
I would say it's similar but with an important key difference, in the Man City case, I don't think us refusing to sell them Walker would have stopped them winning the league this season instead of us, it's possible it could have done but I would say it's more unlikely that it affected the outcome.

Contrast this with Chelsea, allowing Matic to go to Man Utd, I believe that is much more likely to have a bearing on a top 4 place. It is quite possible that Chelsea could miss out on top 4 by finishing 5th, it is also possible they may miss out by between 1-5 points, I believe Man Utd aren't in the same boat as Man City, they are not so far ahead of their rivals like Man City are, I think without Matic they may not have made it, you can see that he is highly integral for them as the moaning Mourinho has alluded to.

I also hope this scenario doesn't arise because I desperately want to see us in the final but imagine again if Man Utd, narrowly beat Chelsea in the final and Matic is again the key difference.

You could say that if either or both scenarios occurs, then Chelsea really have dropped a bollock or two. I don't want us doing the same by letting Toby go to one of those two.

I must admit I love the resolve of Poch. Don't want to be here? Fuck off then. He doesn't seem to care who holds him ransom, much like SAF.

I'm sure there is quality out there for us to replace him with and I'm sure we will be fine. Still be sad to see him go but lets keep building.

According to transfermarkt, Toby has now missed 38 games in 2 seasons with us due to injury.

If he thinks that entitles him to be one of the highest paid defenders in the league, it isn't a question of whether he's worth it or if Poch is too hardlined. Let him walk.

No doubt losing Toby is a blow, but he's been gone four months now, and we've done pretty well in that time. Who knows how fit he is or will be, he's had two pretty big injuries in two years now. It is OK to try and think about it in a level way.

This is what Im coming round to, that and his age.

I think its one we will have to trust the club on because we will never really know whats going on with his contract or injuries 100%.

But we definitely can't sell him to a club in England. I suspect thats why the PSG and Barcelona links have surfaced.

I love it, honestly do, and honestly believe it's good for the other players as well. Look we have players who will be wanted by other clubs, who offer a higher wage or a better chance of silverware. Right now we can't do much about it, if we break the structure there will be simply more knocks on Levy's door and we will cause unrest. We seem to be keeping the core, Kane, Eriksen, Verts and Hugo happy with how we do things. We simply have to accept we are going to lose some players that we develop.

Who the fuck do we get in that will be good enough though? Probably needs to be mid 20s, good in the air and on the ball, and they obviously have to be good at defending. Who is that? Otherwise we're back in the situation where an injury to a starting centreback dramatically weakens us.

I don't want to sell him but we should as he won't sign a new deal.

Get the money in and buy a replacement. Problem we have is jans deal expires in 2019 as well. Not sure if we can extend by a year but we need a good CB in in the summer.

Poch has said a new deal will be offered to him

Does antbody know who his agent is? As far as I remember from Belgian media, he was represented by his father at one point in his career. Don’t know if that’s still the case...

Depending on who we bring in to replace Toby if the worst happens and he does leave during the summer, getting a full preseason in might be an impossibility, considering it's a World Cup year. Although it wouldn't be a problem with de Vrij...

He already earns 100k a week, according to some sites, so will he sign for the same money or want a pay rise as well.

We've been told that there will be a few pay rises at the end of this season. So I imagine it'll be a deal for another 3 years and probably 20k more than what he earns right now

Heard it was far less than that, if he was on £100k a week he would have broken the wage structure at the time.

A committed Toby, yes. An uninjured Toby, yes... but it sounds like Toby is not either of those things any more and he’s getting older too. So while in a perfect world I’d be desperate for him to stay, given that things ain’t right with Toby I’ll live with him going. It’s a shame but if that’s how it is...

In addition to be honest what we most need - taking into account that Sanchez has been great and will improve further, and that we have both Foyth and Dier as RCB alternatives - what we actually need is a really good LCB as backup for Jan / option for three at the back. At this point in time I think we need that a fair bit more than we need to beg or plead with Toby.

Wow - didn't realize it 38 games missed in 2 seasons + you want a get out clause....sounds like the agent wants him on a big salary for next season with us, if he has a big year, he gets a monied team to come in and buy him out.
Would be mugs to agree to that. Might as well just keep the status quo, keep him on a lower salary for the next year and a bit and then sell for 25 million.
