I'm not too concerned if Alderweireld leaves. Sanchez has proven to be a more than competent alternative.

Indeed, I imagine that a host of top-flight clubs will be interested in acquiring Alderweireld - and that opens the door for the great negotiator (Daniel Levy) to work his magic in trading Alderweireld to a club with another player coming our way in return.

Think what we might gain if Real Madrid wanted him. Or Barca, Man Utd, PSG, etc...
United can fuck off...

Mourinho is doing a terrific job at United - certainly in pissing off a number of players. Shaw, Pogba, and Martial come to mind. I wouldn't mind relieving Man Utd of one or more of them.

Not in exchange for a player that will make them better though.

Yep that has really worked in the past

The transfer market in the UK focusses on cash in exchange for players. Another model is player and cash for a player. This latter model is seldom used in player transfers in UK football. But it could be. In Ice Hockey, for example, that is the preferred way of conducting player transfers. If Real Madrid was interested in acquiring Alderweireld, for example, then Tottenham Hotspur could require that Kovacic (or Isco) be part of the deal. That would allow Spurs to bring in a quality player for a position that needs improving in exchange for a player in a position where we already have quality.

The guy hasn’t played a serious game for 5 months. Sanchez and vertonghen have barely put a foot wrong. Poch is Just saying Toby needs to show he’s better than them in training and most likely right now he isn’t.

Carve and copy of the Kyle Walker situation here.
Slowly been moved to the side in all aspects now.
Not first choice, not training consistently, not working hard enough, no favours or fast track back.
No more cup games for him either now.

Really setting Toby, the club and the fans up for his exit in my opinion.

A shame though especially if it is all contract driven. Not great to lose a world class CB for his prime years regardless

Problem with this is the exchanged player also has to want to make the move.

If Madrid put in an offer and we wanted Isco, we would have to convince Isco to join us ahead of all other suitors.

Negotiating one multi million pound deal is difficult, adding a second into the mix is extremely difficult .

This is why swap deals happen in computer games but rarely in reality.

Spurs will have ALL information available on Toby.

Mental, attitude, physical, injury and other data.

They will balance this plus his age on signing the contract and throughout, remember if he signs at £150k pw at 29, he will still be drawing that £150k at 33/34 but will he still be the same player? He might at 29 but we need value throughout the contract not just the first 1/2 years.

Will his injuries impair him and could they get a more effective player for this same amount with best years ahead ?

This will determine what the club want to pay.

Morale - chill out :)

Anyone who thinks he isn’t gone in the summer is seriously clutching at straws

Poch doing everything right if he’s said he’s off too

I think the Club and Levy’s model will always be if a player gets to 27-30 and he thinks he can get top dollar and get a younger replacement of equal calibre he will take the money. Obviously won’t be every player, if you lose 1 a season like this can you maintain impetus, remains to be seen.

Then offer a 3 year contract. I am sure this is common at his age.

Yes I think I his off, but he also hasn’t been fit, I am sure he would be playing games if he was fit.
