Whether Sanchez has done a few of the long diagonal balls, or Verts has done a few, or Toby doesn't when he is injured, is completely missing the point, which is that Toby does them more often and better than anyone I've seen and we will be weaker without him than with him.
Fk all we can do about it but dont try and kid yourself we're as good or better off without him.
Literally seen no one say we are better without him though

Well if we sell him and replace him with De Ligt for example, we’d be better off in say two or three years time. Not so much now, but we did pretty well at centre back this season without him.

Obviously the best scenario is we keep him and add De Ligt, but we have to be realistic. :D

That is not a certainty by any stretch. Grasping there I think.

Maybe not but I said we'll miss those long passes and had responses of 'well Verts did one once, Sanchez did a few but no one else remembers them, and Toby didn't do them when he was injured!!!' None of that is relevant and implies they seem to think we won't miss him.
Its a huge loss and I'm pissd off about it.
Fantastic player.

A contract extension - should we activate it - means he can go for as little as £25m, correct? Why don't we re-negotiate whereby, we activate the extension, if he goes abroad, he can go for £40m, if he goes to another English team, he can go for 150m. That £25m was put in the contract when his stock was not as high as it is now. £150m sounds a lot for a defender, but he's probably one of the best in the world. And there are at least 3 teams in England that could afford that. We can't get screwed by these teams anymore.

*edit* Ignore most of the above ^ Don't know what I was thinking! Sounded better in my head. Thanks for bringing me back to reality (y)

How so? Have you seen De Ligt? He’s 18. Toby is 29. In 3 years time we would have a settled 21 year old as opposed to a knackered 32 year old. Nothing is for certain, yes. But I don’t see how that’s grasping - that looks pretty obvious to me. De Ligt is a wonder kid.

Sorry to break it to you but no team will pay 150m for a 30 year old defender.

Just thinking about it, would City even be interested? They’ve just signed Laporte, they’ve got Stones there and Otamendi is just coming off the back of a good season. I know Kompany is hardly reliable these days, but would they look to replace him with another centre back nearing 30 with a history of injury problems? Perhaps it is just United in for him from up north?

The third mind is interesting too, could mean he is not completely against staying as it may appear. Perhaps he’s waiting to see who we may bring in first? Or perhaps it’s an option we don’t even want to think about as fans, ie Chelsea.

All ifs and maybes at this point I suppose. I guess time will tell.
I don't see any appeal to Chelsea apart from money. That's the only department in which they can offer more than us at the moment.

If you want to win trophies then why move to a worse team? Just because Chelsea have won a few and we haven't it really doesn't mean history is going to repeat itself any time soon.

As I said earlier, Liv weren’t even in the top six then. I doubt very much they would have sold Coutinho to City for example.

We’ve had solid ITK that there are big clubs abroad interested in Toby. If we have to accept a bit less than fair enough. I know we can’t force Toby to do anything, but we can make it very clear we aren’t in the business of strengthening Utd. I’d imagine if he wants out that much he’ll soon start evaluating other offers.
Hadn’t pool come off the back of a 2nd place finish, blowing the title, just before they sold Sterling?

Totally agree. He made 4 or 5 fantastic passes against Leicester. Beautiful to see.

There is zero chance. No, less than that actually, that a 30 year old defender whose missed 30+ games of the last 70 or so due to injury, will ever be sold for £150m. Maybe we can get £50m for him but that'll be tough. We shouldnt expect any more than £40m for him.

If he’s off to the Man U it ain’t about winning trophy’s unless you’re talking fa or league cup but then we have as much chance of winning those in a season as them. Their not winning anything worth shouting about any time soon either.

That's RAWK-level right there.

Yeah, you're probably right. Then we re-negotiate that he can only go to an overseas team, if we activate the extension. At 30, nearing 31, it would be a risk him running down the years extension as at 31, teams that can guarantee trophies will be less interested in him.

They finished 2nd, dropped to 6th the next season, then sold Sterling.
Right, so you could argue that they DID sell to a title rival, as Chelsea did the same with their yo-yo 3 years under Mourinho and Conte.

Would Chelsea consider City title rivals, considering they just finished 5th?

Where are you getting that info? Not doubting, that's just surprising. I didn't notice him really passing to anyone other than the CMs, fullbacks or Jan.

Sanchez definitely has that pass in his locker. He played one wonderful diagonal pass out to KWP or Trippier either against Leicester or it was Watford. It was inch perfect. I think it's just a case of Sanchez being young. As he gains more experience and confidence I think he will play them more often. The good thing is, he is capable.

You think we look likely as cup winners? With a manager that admit they don't matter? Compared to United ? Compared to Mourinho who'd kill someone to win anything?

They're in a final now, if they win it's their 4th in 3 years. We go back to 1984 to find as many trophies.
