This would be disastrous. IF we sell him to United we are so small time. They or any of our rivals wouldn’t dream of selling us a top player. We cannot keep selling our best players to our fucking rivals.
We all know how it would go. Sell Toby to United. Chase De Ligt all summer then end up with someone like Jonny Evans on deadline day???

The only club in the world that doesn't sell their best players are madrid.

Compared to them yes we are small time.

I get what you're saying even though I miss Walker a lot. Sanchez has been a great signing and will continue to be. However this summer is meant to be the summer of "next level" signings and Martial is right there desperate to leave and we have a player Utd really want.
It is just ludicrous that they can get Toby but we can't get Martial.

Plus in terms of that level there isn't really that many players about we've got any chance of getting.

Back on Walker how we didn't grab Sancho is beyond me too, as Sanchez, Lucas and Sancho for Walker would've been an even better scenario.

I agree. I would love to be a city, madrid etc.., and i hate having to shuffle. But that is what we are till we start winning titles.

He’s not even been sold yet and it looks like the thread is going through the five stages of grief

Nah it's not like that
Fuck off
Maybe Levy is reading this and will sell to PSG, it could have been so different if we'd won the league two years ago
Hold me
We'll spend the money on de Ligt, who will turn out to be an incredible buy for next season and the future

City stopped Sancho to us from happening. Sancho wanted to join up with us but City vetoed the whole thing.

Don't look at it as a like for like. Sanches and moura for walker? I'd take that.

Yeah true, even if technically it probably was more so Walker for Sanches. Or for arguments sake you could easily say we sold the best RB in the league for Aurier and Moura, 2 players who aren't in our starting 11. I see your point though but it's not really selling him that's my biggest worry or issue it's just how I think we may recruit to make up for it.

It's different if you're a Chelsea, City, United or even Arsenal because you know if you lose a good player you can bring in someone to replace them who's proven world class due to the wages they can offer. Not that it always works out well, but because of that they have a better pool of players to select from. Our problem may be that we lose someone who we pay little in wages but has the quality of someone who can demand massive wages and then obviously when it comes to replacing, we cannot replace with the same quality of player who demands those higher wages so it's as if we have to look below what we sell. We've seen it with Modric, Bale, Berbatov and Walker, we can't really replace like for like because so many of our players develop well and move into a bracket that isn't really one we're at.

When you think of it like that you also think how well we've done to be where we're at now to be honest.

Are we sure that is what really happened?
I dunno. What i do know is that the fa changed the rules so that u18 players agents couldn't get a fee from any transfers. Then they all went to germany.

I genuinely can't fathom how someone would think this isn't a terrible move for Spurs. Toby is incredible and anyone who thinks otherwise is just a total homer or doesn't understand football.

I'm with you on the only club who doesn't sell is Madrid line (although even they'd sell say Ramos if PSG offered 150m). Most Spurs fans have accepted that it is what it is and Toby has to go, but to a rival really?

As others have said he's not an Englishman who is scared of playing abroad, if Levy sat him down and said "we want to thank you for your time here, we've accepted a £45m bid from Barcelona" Toby would be over the moon and be running there.

Problem is in order for that to happen it would mean we've rejected/not chased a £60m+ bid from Utd, and therein lies the problem.

Nobody is happy, if he goes anywhere.
But we have to make the best out of a bad situation.

Would need a foreign bid though. Levy has shown before he'll take less from abroad, both modric and bale.

If he stayed, they were going to stop him from playing on the development team for a year as he refused to sign another contract. He didn't really leave on the best terms. He refused to turn to up pre-season training and wasn't taking calls from anyone from city.

If we can't get Martial we need to whatsapping PSG and Barca pronto offering him for a good price in my opinion. Even if it's £20m less than would get from Utd. I know it's not stopping Utd from signing another CB but Toby is a proven PL player and we've seen countless times players fail to adapt to this league after looking great in others.
Apart from money there's no reason to make it easy for them if we're not getting Martial.

I don’t think it’s a terrible move unless we swing and miss on a high potential replacement like de Ligt. It sucks but it is what it is.

We are obviously a better team with him.

I also think he’s getting older and has had hamstring issues throughout his career, and soft tissue injuries generally get more prevalent as you age. He’s missed more than a month due to injury in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

The age is massive for us. Hercs etc... might be saying that this might change this window but historically we have treated transfers as an investment. Buy young/cheap sell at peak or get a steal (end of contract, relegation etc..).

Can't see it changing.

If we sell him to them we need a world record CB fee or need to weaken their squad by taking a player (or two). Martial for sure
