If we can't shift him on, how much is this going to affect;

1.) Our business dealings
2.) Squad depth in defence - will we still use him?
I don’t think shifting him is the issue, dictating where he goes may be if there isn’t much interest though

But if he's asking for 200k a week and clubs are put off by that it would be, right?
I've gotten used to the idea that he's as good as gone now and I'm sure Poch is of the same opinion, for him to end up staying could cause us a few problems especially if that stops us from signing someone like De Ligt?

Or have I got this wrong

I'd keep him. It would be a lesson to other players the grass isn't always greener.
Offer him a contract that is not as high as the last one.

Latest ITK very interesting.
My thoughts.
It wold be absolutely wrong to sell him to Man U, even if they pay stupid money.

If nobody else is willing to pay Toby £200k or whatever he was demanding, and he's needing to come back down to asking for the wage we originally offered, surely we'd be better off with him just signing another contract with us?

No point in cutting our nose off to spite our own face - he is top draw and would be a massive loss for us and massive gain for anyone who buys him...

All very well thinking we're having the last laugh by telling him to go fuck himself, but we're only weakening the squad? Just a thought...

This. He's a top quality player and it would be a case of cutting off our nose. He wanted, and may still get a bumper pay day, but if it doesn't happen it would leave a bad taste to be too punitive and vitriolic. He's served us very well as a player which must surely count for something. Common sense should prevail.

I don't think anyone can deny that Toby has earned the right to at least ask for £200k a week. He knows he won't be getting that here.
I hope he leaves the PL, but unless he goes to PSG or the MLS I don't know who would pay him that much.

I think a lot of people here are purely focusing on the footballing side of things which is fair and understandable but misguided.
Sure, none of us (even the ITK) are privy to everything that happens. Only those involved know all the in's and out's of what's actually been discussed, how people are feeling and reacting etc... BUT from all reports like the ITK's and media etc... it's that Toby and his team have tried to play a game and in doing so have burned all their bridges and angered multiple people and haven't really won anything out of it.

I'd love Toby to stay because he's a great CB. But if as suggested him and his team have let down/betrayed Poch then I'd be fine with him going. We are bigger than any player.

Whilst not at the same level, this has also been eased from the emergence and form of Sanchez. We went on a great unbeaten run in the league with Toby out of the team injured and Sanchez and Verts playing at the back. Toby leaving would weaken us. That is a fact. But it's not like it'll drop us from being a top 4 team to fighting for a Europa league place. Add that to the possibility of getting de Light as well as Martial and all the other ITK news etc... that's coming out that whilst losing Toby would be a shame, it's not the worst thing in the world by any stretch.

If you wanna go on the Man Utd and strengthening a rival thing then yeah, it is a little frustrating but I think football is moving past that idea a little. The market is so different now that buying from rivals isn't that uncommon anymore. Also just something I find interesting is the idea it's strengthening a position that Man Utd are already decent in. Walker to City was fixing a clear and obvious weakness in their team. Toby to Man Utd isn't the same. Mourinho's problem isn't his defence. I mean they literally had the 2nd best defence in the league last season. Toby strengthens them sure but in an area they're kinda already okay in. If it was Liverpool or Chelsea being linked then that'd be much more of an issue for me (partly cause I hate them both more but also cause that's an area they're both weak in).

Essentially it's sad that it looks like Toby is going, can't deny that. But losing Toby after the 17/18 season isn't as bad as losing Toby might have been after the 16/17 season.

This is the key for me and is why I'm not all that bothered about this move. Toby is going for £25m next year like it or not. That could be to United, it could also be to Chelsea or Liverpool; we'd have no say in the matter. Imagine if we left it a year and then he decides to take Pool's offer of 200k and a guarranteed starting role, how sick would you feel then? At least with United you know he's (1) not fixing a glaring problem in their team & (2) they're not our direct competitors the way Liverpool and Chelsea are, at least in financial terms. If abroad's not an option it may as well be to Utd, and if we get Martial in return then frankly we're laughing.

I think if ITK is true, clubs backing away is only temporary. He had a long term (ish) injury and only played a handful of games since - none really against a top level opponent. If I was a club interested i'd wait and see how he comes through the World Cup. For the money Toby wants, and the money Levy is asking for, for a 29 year old thats had two injuries in 2 years i'd be doing my due diligence.

I don't expect this to move until after Belgium have finished their campaign.

But that silly money may well be the difference in us strengthening or us standing still. Not that I think he will go to United but the principle is the same in all transfers.

Completely agree, but some are struggling with this wild, crazy notion.

If we do want him gone and get best price for him I think it's sensible to get it done before World Cup.

On paper Belgium have a great team but I've got a feeling they might bottle it and crash out. Toby also has looked pretty rusty and it's not beyond realm of possibility him having a poor World Cup along with his country. Even if they end up winning it I don't think it's worth risk waiting, as if he looks shot and Belgium massively underachieve suddenly his price drops and interest might even disappear.
