Sorry not calling you out for sharing nor the knowledge of Rob. Just saying that any ambiguity in the Toby saga drives many on here loopy. I think a lot of that ambiguity is just the on/off nature of transfer negotiation.

Yeah I know you weren't calling me out buddy. I just know that there are a few people who are likely to appear and start slagging off either Rob, his info or me, because I posted it.

I can absolutely understand how this whole saga is driving people loopy, though. Personally speaking, I've got to the point where I couldn't give a shit either way. Stay or go, just hurry up & do either so we can get on with planning properly for the future. COYS

His Dad/agents coming back to Levy with their tails between their legs does match some ITK we had the other day, can’t remember from who though.

I’d far rather keep Toby than swap him for the unknown. He’s easily the best defender in the league and has a great partnership with Jan. If Poch wants to go three at the back, him Jan and Sanchez could be rock solid.

Not bothered if we keep him or not, he does lack pace, although I don't think Sanchez is good enough to be his replace, way to weak and makes too many errors.

Mate, I think if one player has earned the title 'best defender in the league' it's Jan.

You realise Toby has to agree to it right?
I'm aware, but the only clubs able to match our valuation are clubs that he'd likely want to join anyway, the likes of PSG, Barca, Juventus or whoever. I thought that was obvious. I wasn't suggesting that FC Basel were going to pipe up with a £50m bid and we'd try to force him there.

Some people seem to have forgotten that this is a decision motivated by money, not sporting reasons. The only reason we're even in this situation is because he wants a big pay day, so is the thought of him going anywhere that offers him his £200k+ salary really so hard to imagine? I'm not suggesting every transfer works this way, but he's clearly one of those who are motivated by money first and foremost. He, his agents and his father have burned enough bridges to suggest that, according to ITK at least.

You must be crazy if you think that none of the big boys will pay him £150k+ a week. They’re big clubs with pretty much unlimited resources, If Utd pay Luke Shaw £120k a week they’ll pay Toby the £150k

Clubs are constrainted by FFP that’s why City have moved to the Spurs model lower wage with bigger bonus. Only Man Utd seem untroubled FFP because of their vast earnings. Toby flopped at Athletico Madrid so don’t see big money coming for him from Spain. With his £28 million release clause next summer pointless selling for less than £50million if can’t afford a decent replacement and we miss out on champions league next May.

If they're not enforcable why didnt Barca decide not to honour Neymar's?...they clearly did everything they could to stop it, but they were powerless.

As i said, if they were that easy to get around, they'd be completely pointless.

Barca didn't - it's some sort of employment law in Spain that you can buy your own contract out. Neymar technically paid La Liga, who passed the compensation for his contract to Barca

Nope, It was a release clause, they didn't 'buy out' his contract.
Virtually all players in La Liga have release clauses.
You're right about Neymar paying the league, as that's how it works over there...but it was a release clause nonetheless.

What? It wasn't. It was a buy out clause. It's Spanish law. Real Decreto 1006/1985

I'm not sure what your point is, buy out clause is a release clause is it not?
How is this in any way relevant to the discussion we were having?

Because your argument (ignoring all fact, apparently) was "Why didn't Barca stop Neymar leaving".

The point is, Neymar was employed in Spain where by law you have a buy out clause. Suarez and Alderweired are/were employed in England where the law does not exist.

It was a bad example granted, but you think that nowhere else in the world they're legally enforceable?
They just put Toby's in for a laugh did they?
Ok mate.

You asked a question and got an answer. The straw man is of no interest to me tbh.

But that's a thing again though, it's assuming that these other clubs really want him. Going by ITK and paper talk only Man Utd and Chelsea seem to be keen on him. Part of that could be his wage demands. If the other clubs like Barca or Juve don't wanna pay 200K a week for Toby how can we offer him to them? It might be a thing where someone like PSG might like the idea of having him, but not wanting to pay that much per week for a 29 year old CB. Not just a case of someone meeting our high fee.

Also as someone else has mentioned/posted in the Martial thread I believe, how much do the European big boys actually spend? Real and Barca spend money, sure. The others? Not really. Bayern's transfer record is under 40mil. Juve's is 87 mil on Higuain but outside of that it's in the 40's. Why would they spend 50mil on Toby?

Tbh I don't know why people on here get so argumentative when you point out a simple fact. It's not even opinion

Ah don't worry about it mate. You're both good guys, you just didn't see eye to eye on this occasion. Just draw a line under it, forget about it & both rediscover your mojo in the next thread you visit :)

EDIT: @Gb160 Come on you miserable bastard, remove that bloody Spam rating from Sausage's last post :p
