I agree with you.

As far as finances are concerned we are over achieving.

But in regards to quality of players and setup we are slightly overachieving but that’s it.

Selling players once they want to leave in their latter years for a premium price and reinvesting that money in the next quality players coming through is a good system.

It means we don’t get an ageing squad and we get to develop top quality players in a way that is beneficial to us.
So we are overachieving then...

Yes, in terms of finances we are overachieving.

In terms of player quality and setup we are slightly overachieving.

I agreed with the general point of the poster I quoted.

Which part are you struggling to understand?

I don't know of anyone who thought that transfer was a good idea, beyond the suits at Chelsea who sold him over Conte's head. Hardly a great model to follow.

This will also be the second major sale to a top six club in 12 months. No other top club is selling their players to their domestic rivals at that rate.
Olivier Giroud - Arsenal to Chelsea
Alexis Sanchez - Arsenal to Manchester United
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - Arsenal to Liverpool
Willy Caballero - Manchester City to Chelsea
Nemanja Matic - Chelsea to Manchester United
Henrikh Mkhitaryan - Manchester United to Arsenal

That was just last year.

Yeah....yeah, but apart from when it does happen, it never happens.

I’m aware that Arsenal have a long and proud history of selling to their domestic rivals, but I was careful to emphasise that ‘no other top club is selling their players to their domestic rivals at that rate’.

Arsenal may be a big club, but I no longer consider them a top club.

Unless you want us to follow their example, the point stands.

What point? We’ve sold one player to a rival club.

I can illustrate all those other teams having done the same.

This is the Alderweireld thread, the context of the discussion is the proposed sale of Alderweireld to Utd.

In the eventuality that Toby is sold to Utd, 'this will also be the second major sale to a top six club in 12 months. No other top club is selling their players to their domestic rivals at that rate.'

Unless you're holding up Arsenal as an example to follow, the point stands.

Still think he will go to man utd. All the timing of the Martial wanting out stuff is interesting though.

If Utd are 100% serious about not letting Martial go, Levy better screw a massive fee out of Utd.

Would still leave a horrible taste in the mouth though, but if Poch is happy so am I.

so you've made it clear we shouldn't sell to Man U. who should we sell him too if we don't want him, and make £30m more than we would this time next season.

then you will be one of the 1st to moan that we aren't spending more money.

Pique is really over the hill would not rule out Barca coming back for Toby late in the window.

Calciomercato reporting ManU have been turned down for Skriniar with a €65m bid... will be music to Levy’s ears if true.

I'm hoping this can still be resolved post WC. Toby would strengthen any defence in the PL and whilst Levy will no doubt screw get top dollar for his departure there is no guarantee that any replacement bought would be as good. I know that is stating the obvious but the extra wages for Toby maybe the better deal for us (not to be held to ransom of course) rather than making our rivals harder to beat and possibly weakening ourselves...

The way this is playing out, I wouldn’t be so shocked to see Toby remaining. I don’t think Levy will sell him for the sake of selling him if nobody bids a huge fee.
