its a big thing finishing third in WC, fourth not so much. You always want to win the last game you play in the world cup.

I know ITK strongly indicates he’s off, but...

Lloris
(Trippier) Alderweireld Sanchez Vertonghen (Rose)

... is the best defence in the league, and one of the best in Europe. Would love it if we can keep him.

Spot on. Get a quality CM and we really are in business.

I think if we kept him then we'd be severely limited incomings wise. It would probably be a couple of cheap punt signings and that would be our lot. Pretty sure we're relying on him to be sold for decent money but no takers yet it seems.

Not so sure about that. If as stated, De Ligt is the #1 replacement then we'd be reinvesting a huge amount of the Toby fee there. There certainly wouldn't be enough surplus to fund multiple other signings...

Getting a higher fee from China for Dembele is probably the key.

I wonder if wages have something to do with us needing to sell a few. With the new contracts we are dishing out your Sissokos, Llorentes, Nkoudous etc need to be off the bill to accommodate new signings perhaps and DL doesn’t want to risk us not being able to shift them after bringing players in.

That is highly possible. However this window is unique in that we have 3 weeks after our window closes to complete sales abroad. Makes sense trying to shift everyone first but there must be a point to refocus on incomings if outgoings are dragging.

MEN seem to be suggesting Utd are confident of closing a £50m deal for Toby this week, they better be allowing Martial in the other direction if so. We clearly want him, so anything else is us coming out of the situation weakly IMHO. Edit: It's actually the Daily Express so probably made up.

I'd say all of the Toby fee plus a substantial chunk.

I hope Toby sees sense and both Poch and Levy do a turn around and retain him. With Rose coming back to his best and Trippier coming of age in this WC, that would be one bad ass defense when we add Sanchez and Verts into the equation

I actually think it's worth keeping him even if he goes for £25 million next season. If we miss champions league next season that's loss would be double that anyway.

Presumably they have a list of options. But we didn't miss him too much last season did we, and Sanchez and Foyth should be even better next season so I'm not too panicked.

it seems that ajax would not let de ligt leave this summer, so we either go for other targets such as pavard, or we stick to TA and probably lose him for 25m next summer. of course the best scenario is TA signing the contract but i have already given up:(

Pavard seems nailed on for Bayern on a pre-agreement.

If we could agree a lower fee for De Ligt with the loan back I'd be tempted to hang on to Toby and settle for the £25m next season. I wonder if the club has considered that. Would open us up to losing him to Chelsea or Arsenal however.

If we keep him I think he'll sign a new contract anyway. We're now paying a different level of wages so why wouldn't he sign a new improved contract for another year? ITK suggested he was happy to go back on our original offer anyway so it's really up to us.

and strengthen united, that's why we can never win the league, last season it was a walker, look how strong city is as a result, u want to give United what they want whilst weakening Tottenham
I'm not that sure that Walker made that much difference. They were very good before buying him and he cost them the FA cup as well.

I think it's similar, but the opposite, actually; we only keep him if he signs a new contract.

When we make signings and sales that are in line with footballing needs and ambitions and sign most (or at least some) in time for pre-season.

The last time that happened was a couple of years ago. Wanyama and Janssen made a lot of sense in that respect as they were what we needed at the time and they were signed nice and early.

but if the players we want, and believed was available to sign in time for pre-season, then become unavailable because their club won't deal, what do you expect us to do.

doesn't matter if we have been told we have money, we want Poch's choices. plus not many players involved in the WC will sign before they are out, and the players have had time to recover.

then there is what Trix posted somewhere we still have to budget and by at the time we do.

I really don't see the panic we have a very good squad that is very hard to replace players of the same quality and compete with everyone in the market

Doubt it we have the lowest wages to turnover percentage in the prem.
