Wants to be paid *what he thinks is* his worth. From what we've heard we offered Toby a new deal, a good deal. Toby asked for more. We said no.

Toby and his team went out looking to see if someone else would pay that... no-one would.

From what I heard, Poch went in to bat for Toby, got him the deal he was asking for and then Toby and 'his people' wanted more. If that's how it went down, I can see why Poch is mightily pissed off with him since it showed no respect for Poch whatsoever.

It was based on fitness and form also though - some of the games he played when he came back from injury were terrible - he was bang out of form and didn't deserve to play.

It was initially, like around the Juventus games (I felt we should have used him in a three in the 2nd leg). He made it clear Poch and the team told him he wasn't ready. Sanchez was also doing superbly and we had just come through some tough fixtures (Utd win, Pool draw, Goons win, Juve draw).

I honestly believe he would have been integrated more without the contract dispute however.

That would be interesting as we were still an exceptional defense when we used a 4. It even turned into a 3 most of the time anyways as Dier would start the game at DM but slide back in between Toby & Jan quite often throughout the game. Dier's versatility really helps us be fluid in formation throughout a game and I don't think enough people realize that.

the thing is whose going to be happy being benched if we now decide to play a 4, with Dier occasionally making it a 5. Rumours where that Toby was all set to sign a new contract in January, he was offered £110k I believe, and at the end of discussions or end of the season came back asking for an extra 60k. Sanchez played pretty well in the 4 at the back too, and it was only Man C that managed to score more than 2 against us in any 1 match, and we didn't concede 2 goals in many games (before anyone pipes up Toby & Dier was our CB v Leicester). the thing is Sanchez was the 1st player to sign an improved contract, yet we could of held off for a season with him as we only signed him last season, so had a long contract anyway.

Yes I agree Toby, Sanchez, and Jan make a great defence, but how many teams do we really need to be playing with 3 at the back, when 75%+ of the time we are either in possession and in the other teams half, where we need the extra attacking player to breakdown a defence. If he signs a new contract and accepts he will see a lot of rotation, and in those games he doesn't feature he won't get his bonuses and rid of a release then I'll be okay with that, and support him like I support everyone that puts the shirt on whether a great player or even Sissoko

Okay if you believe that good on you. Im taking an alternative view. The one that says we have a brilliant defender who we if it's to be believed letting go because he "shifted" the goal posts to use a term. As I've said to another poster we've only heard one end of this story. There's Toby's version too.

a big difference though 60k don't you agree, especially as he was happy to sign it originally. if every player in the squad felt their value was worth an extra 60k a week that would mean an extra 1.5m a week, and that's just for the squad players

We'll see is just one part of the quote, the rest is: ""I really do not know anything yet. In my head I just go to Tottenham. We'll see,"

Doesn't sound like he's thinking about moving, just coming back to us for preseason.

The other quotes for context:

"I was very focused on this tournament. I wanted to prove something again. Show that the period before the tournament in which I did not play - for whatever reason - that it was unjustified," he said.
"I wanted to show that I am still the same Toby as in November."
He added: "I was happy that I could still play four or five matches for the World Cup. I immediately had a good feeling.
"Physically there was no problem, because it was just my only major injury from my career.
"I spent only three or four months in my entire career. I'm glad I could come back in this way."

At the end of the day it’s comments like these that I don’t like. Same with Rose. I think Poch is none too fond of them either.

You’d think with all the money these guys earn it wouldn’t be hard to be a little professional and keep the bitching out of the press.

Ego's and self promotion are difficult to suppress, irrespective of money being earned. If they feel hard done by, then there are many in the media who are more than willing to hear!

Doesn't seem that crazy to me that people would get emotional during a contract negotiation, especially when dealing with these large amounts of money. It is strange that it was so bad that it got to this point.

We don't know the exact amount its more that we've just heard the one side. Im also looking at us shifting such an exxellent defender.

We will have to see how it plays out. If you believe that Poch has a say on the ins and outs then his decisions, for whatever reason they may be, are for reasons that align with his philosophy and, I personally believe for the good of the team.

He sticks to his guns and from what it looks like no one is bigger than the team.

I like the people who he has chosen to play for us and if the true facts are the ones we have heard then I am happy that Poch has stuck to his guns.

If there are other reasons and it turns out that there has been some kind of unjustified treatment of Toby, I would be surprised and it would certainly give me food for thought when considering Poch's man management and team philosophy.

Strange this is that Poch went and picked Toby for the last few games so he could prove his fitness and be selected for the WC for Belgium. You don't do that for a player who has burnt his bridges with you do you?

For all we know he was just putting Toby in the shop window.

It's bare annoying how this hasn't been sorted out, atleast with Walker we all knew for months he was 100% moving to City.

Because there was a World Cup this summer and there wasn't last summer.

Think the issue has been resloved regarding Toby a long time ago... simply you’re leaving. Just there’s not many/any clubs willing to meet our valuation or his wage demands which from the ITK seem a bit mad.
And if united won’t give us Martial then fuck them why should we suddenly decrease the asking price
