Don't sell him; play him.

We lose £25m taking that route, along with a possible £15m doing the same with Dembele. It's not as clear cut as that we ain't got a sugar daddy or a sultan backing us.

Love the idea of him staying for another year or signing an extension, it just puts us and our non existing money tree in a bit of a predicament in doing so

It gives us a year of a world class centre-back whose quality we would struggle to buy on the open-market today if he didn't already play for us. I think we have the kind of nucleus of quality already at the club where we should look to the present right now rather than always being concerned with the year after where are now. I get that not everyone will agree, but IMO a year of Toby now and selling him for £25m next year is better than a year of someone not as good as Toby now and £20m-odd extra next year.

Valid point. If we were to keep him it would cost us more replacing him in 12 months time though by a considerable amount it has to be said as well. I get the feeling that's something the club as a business will take far more seriously with the building of a new stadium and state of the art training facilities etc than us fans do though.

I back you regarding his talents and would rather see him stay with us replacing him next season and hope that happens, but the club will have to swallow a loss of £25m doing so when he's probably not even going to be first choice in a back four of Jan & Davinson this year. I think that will play its part ultimately.

Off the top of my head we've only spent £25m or more on four or five playes in our history so it's definitely not a loss that will and should be taken lightly if we are offered £50m+ for him this time around

You can't just play him though if he has gone and openly pissed off half the staff and team.
That just sends the wrong message on how to behave within the squad and Poch won't have it, rightly in my opinion.

Unless TA seriously grovels and repairs whatever bridges he burned (if even possible), then he needs to be sold, end of, for the benefit of club harmony.

Do you guys really think that you can just put him back on the pitch as if nothing happened? Morale plays too big a factor in a team game and whilst Toby might still do a decent Job, at some point it bites you in the ass.

No, either TA sorts his relationship out (and presumably signes a new contract), or he is out the door now whilst we get the better fee.

as I posted else where

so if we don't sell to Man U and no one else comes in, your be happy to lose 30m+ next season, with the possibility he could go to Arsenal, or Chelsea which we wouldn't be able to stop if they meet the buy out clause (and if he pissed of the club as much as ITK have suggested) Poch might not play him, so might go to 1 of them in spite. we would of wasted 75k a week, lose 30m+ in a transfer fee, then we would have to put up with all you whingers moaning next season because our net spend wasn't good enough to take us to the next level.

Doubt we'll get 55-60m for him in the above scenario. ITK seemed to hint it would be less than that as well didn't it. Given there seems to be a field of one in for him now, and we want rid, it wouldn't be surprising for it to be significantly lower than that. In which case Utd have their final puzzle piece, Toby gets a pay rise and a shot at the title, and we get a chunk of money but probably too late to use.

According to various media sources if we don't sell him for big money this window and instead take up the option to extend his contract for a further year, then next summer he can go for £25 million due to a clause, basically a pittance.

Just have Dier or Dele do a job on him during one of the final training sessions of the season...

Can't see utd offering much if Toby is holding out for them.

Perhaps the best strategy is to impress on Toby that we will only accept a decent offer from utd and tell him that if utd don't pay up then he has the option of European club or being fifth choice on base salary this season (maybe our bonus system will bite a bit there). His choice then, and his agent can look into offers from Europe if Toby wants to play this season.

We can replace him with Dier this year if necessary.

If we are going to do little in the transfer window keeping Toby will be necessary as we are unlikely to strengthen very much so retaining our good players remains ever important.

It's starting to look like we're going to have to kiss and make up with Toby after all - even if we still look to sell him next season.

Massive pinch of salt, but I was listening to a sky sports transfer podcast, they had a Belgium football “expert” in. He very briefly mentioned that Toby handed in a Transfer request in January. The presenters didn’t question this strangely, especially considering one was a Spurs fan.

My guess is if the above is True, maybe Poch got him the deal he wanted and agreed to, he then came back wanting more, when was told no he handed in a request and refused to train.. this would certainly be enough for Poch not to want to keep him. Would also fit the perception his team give off.

Mulitple cons to this theory but if he handed a request in, I’m sure it would have been splashed all over the newspapers the next day..

I've been hoping for that all along. Go get De Ligt next year with more experience under his belt and try to win some silverware this year with Toby in the squad.

Can't see this to be honest. If he had turned in a transfer request - Poch would have frozen him out completely. And, a deal would have been agreed between January and now.

I can see that Toby burned some bridges - but not to that extent.

Well when you think about it - he kinda was frozen out. He couldn't get a look in the first team. It was only when we absolutely needed him to step in for a cup match or injury that he featured.

If you listen to the United channels there has been no bids of him and i suspect United might try a cheeky £40 million at then end of the window and at that price better to keep him if possible with a new contract.

Sounds like PSG have moved for Bonucci so another option out the window. As others have said - I expect a 35/40 million bid from United in the last week of the window. Will be interesting to see what Levy decides to do.

It won't be that interesting as I suspect you already know what Levy will do, we probably all do...35/40m now or 25m next summer...come on.
