It's wages with Toby that I would imagine is preventing lots of interest. I'm guessing he's seeking at least parity, probably more than VVD's £180k a week being that it was around this time the problems started (I think). 4 year minimum deal say for a 29 year old isn't very appealing to chairman.

I think what Toby has found is that the £180k VVD is getting paid is not market value. In fact the top wedge around Europe's elite for a CB is between £100-120k, the main outliers being Ramos and Pique. Which is probably why Toby's now willing to come back to the table on our offer rumoured to be £120k.

It's made out like Klopp is some kind of genius getting these players to choose LFC but its mainly them overpaying on fees and wages.

Just shows how Liverpool have facked things up for everyone else by paying VVD such a ridiculous salary. I wonder how much they paid his agent ?

Yep it sure feels like the VVD deal has caused all these issues with Toby.
I can understand the principle and human nature in being less keen to sign a lower deal than someone else is getting, someone that you feel is a sub standard player to you, but it's the way he appears to have gone about it that is such a shame.
Liverpool the new Chelsea in terms of messing up the market.

Looks like bonucci has handed in a transfer request at milan which means toby has a much higher chance of staying? Hope things weren't that bad between him and poch.

I agree it shoould somehow be fair, but I can absolutely not support a footballer here who is going on strike or sth because he earns above 100k pw and feels its not enough.
Fuck sake, what a world is this?

There was a leak of Van Dijk’s contract which said he was on only about £120,000 a week with bonuses added after when they kept a number of clean sheets.
We’ve been told before that we have one of the better bonus structures in the league so surely we could come close to that.

Hope we keep him as we won't find a better defender to replace him. I can't see him giving less than 100% even after all the kerfuffle.

From Hercs : He either signs-what he gave his word to, and becomes water under the bridge. Or! He won’t be in manager’s plans, and hard to get game time, which he knows.

I don't get why we are so adamant that he has to sign a new contract i mean it's not like he is 25 y/o, so he doesn't sign a contract, we will still get 25m for him in a years time and a year later he can go on a free but taking into account his valuation now how much will he be worth anyway ?
Like i said earlier, if he is not in the managers plans who will be the bigger loser him or us ? most certainly us !

Probably so that we at least retain some control on where he goes next year. I would love him to stay another year but even if he does sign I bet we still sell him next year for a decent fee.

You can blame Campbell for Levy's no tolerance stance on players running down contracts. It is what it is and he won't make exceptions for anyone.

Levy is bang on about this
Well look at it logicly, he doesn't sign a contract, we don't play him and we have lost a player worth approx 40m for 2 years and get zilcho for him in 2 years, he signs a contract and in 2 years we sell / value him at approx 15m, where are we the winner if he doesn't sign a contract ?
