Lots misinformation going on i think. We won't know the true story. It was stated he would not play for us again.... My sense of it is he knows its his last contract and wants his worth.

Seeing him play and the tweets last week, it gives me a glimmer of hope that the situation can be salvaged. We far better defensively with him than without him.

Absolutely! I’m just going off ITK in my post. You’re right we may never know exactly what went down. Toby -Sanchez -Verts are 3 central defenders any Prem team would love to have.

That back 3 is truly exquisite. After our TW inaction i was rather pessimistic about our top 4 chances... But holding on to Toby gave me hope. Seeing him play gives me belief that we can compete.

The key is for Poch to use his entire squad and not just a core of 13-14 players. If He uses the full squad an manages their minutes as a "squad" throughout the season, we'll be fine.

I dont think we could have signed better players than Toby and Dembele even though we made no signings I still think we are stronger than last season.

Also I hope KWP and Forth get game time playing him beside Toby, even if Toby went for £25 mil bring though KWP and JF would help offset the loss. Playing along side Toby is safer than Sanchez with his communication, composure, experience and reading of the game, they would learn a lot. If we had signed a young center back to replace him we would only have Jan with real exp.
I certainly agree about Toby. For me he's the best defender in the league.

There was what felt like a minute stretch in the match where he played two fantastic long passes to Trippier down the right side in the first half. The type of pass that I'm not sure anyone else in our side would have tried/executed. It was fantastic stuff.

Stuff the past. Sign him up for a new contract. What a great player he is.

In my time, i have loved King, Naybet, Woodgate and Vertonghen. But Toby isnt far behind...

I think he will sign. We didn't sign anyone but we are offering more parity relatively speaking wage wise. Poch is playing with some very nice cards.

I'm impressed with how the season has started after the quick turnaround.

When I saw those passes I thought of Dier trying them and winced. TAs passing range is the best I've seen in a centre half in years.

I don't recall a Spurs defence as solid as our 2016/17 season - 26 conceded (club record for a league season). For me, that stat alone tells me why we should do everything to keep him at the club. Get his contract sorted if we can - one of the best CB's in the world imho.

Now that hes back in the first 11 again, contract talks should be more manageable from both sides. Thought he was good yesterday but has still room for improvement which will come with more game time.

Stick with this defence and sign him to a new deal. The past is the past, don't cut our nose off to spite our face.

No one got to them either.

How dare you, there were some great balls to Bale if I recall correctly.

In all seriousness Tobys passes are better but Dawson had some great ones also.

I think Toby needs to be signed up, let bygones be bygones, and lets just keep him.

One in a hundred maybe. It's like everytime I criticise Dier's long passing, someone will always post that clip of his ball to Dele that he controlled and finished in one move. There is a reason why it's always the same clip that gets posted.

I'm with you here, Dier's long passing is atrocious. He attempts so many and they always fail, yet he will pull a decent one out every now and then and fans will point to it as evidence he's a great passer. Funny logic.
