You forgot Doherty who, frankly, pisses all over Toby in every aspect, even hair quality

and hair colour. Best ginger haired cb/cf to have scored in an FA Cup semi-final for my money. Only one who could run him close was Matthias Sammer, but, even then, only in that one season when he won the ballon d'or. Still the only ginger haired recipient to date. Obv, should have been rebranded as la balle de gingembre from that point, but that's another story.

I'm with you here, Dier's long passing is atrocious. He attempts so many and they always fail, yet he will pull a decent one out every now and then and fans will point to it as evidence he's a great passer. Funny logic.

Selective evidence - a fairly common issue among fans!

He won't be able to do a Campbell until he's nearer 31
We can activate the further year when his current deal runs out next year when he's almost 30, then we get either £25m for him or another year. If he goes on free the next season he's on the wind down in his career so it won't be such an big deal.

Rather than my bitter nightmare scenarios, which is more than a serious risk imo, this is the main issue: as it stands, both our main CBs are gone next May.

Sanchez will be the senior defender next season - we have to give him as much time as possible on the pitch. If Dier is going to be the LCB, then he too needs to build up some hours, and build up an understanding with Sanchez.

Trouble is, Dier will be in midfield this season because of Wanyama's onging injuries. And anyway I don't think he is currently good enough in the air/has good enough positional sense to play CB, unless he has an experienced partner.

Maybe we have a fantastic replacement CB coming in January or next summer. In our dreams.
Back in the real world, to the detriment of this season's goals we have to prepare for next season's walkout and it means inching our main pairing out the door via extended periods on the bench.

A manager's time is short and MP will not be so bothered about next season. He wants a trophy this season. But success needs to be sustainable to mean anything. It is unfortunate but TA and JV are doing this to us.

I think at this point we’ve either found compromise with him and a new contract is likely, or all parties are acceptant that we’re all better off if he plays through the season, we do well and next summer someone can activate the clause,

So glad he stayed and funny seeing ManU a shambles at the back. Hopefully he signs that new deal and everyone puts this episode behind them.

Hopefully, it's the former. However, if someone offers circa 40M in Jan, and he still hasn't signed, are you confident we would turn that down knowing it's apparently 25M max a few months later? Imagine the answer would be quite revealing, especially if we are in touch with the leaders at that point.

This sounds very wild and innaccurate to me. Contractial negotiations always go on and their outcomes will always go 1 or 2 ways. Until then we play the team that poch see's as best.
When poch eventually leaves of course we will lose a small few it always happens. But until then.

I think selling him in the next 2 weeks is stupid and short sighted on our part if it were to happen. particularly as we have not strengthened the squad this window.

We need another season of CL football and im sure a season of that in 2019/20 is far more lucrative than the difference in what we could get now or January for him.

There is still a possibility he could be sold in the next 2 weeks.

Interesting though that it was Sanchez who came off v Fulham and not Toby. Maybe clutching at straws but I'd like to think that shows a level of trust and respect between coach and player that hasn't been there for a while. Can't see us risking an unnecessary injury to Toby if we're trying to sell at this very moment although I suppose we could be equally advertising his fitness.

Totally agree with people saying it just felt right with him in the team even if he still doesn't look 100% fit.

I may be wrong, but I think Trix was just stating that the window is still open and it could still happen, rather than it being any kind of inside info?
Correct me if i'm wrong @Trix by all means

Yep. Let's be honest I'm sure we would rather keep him around at the moment but a very good offer for a player with contract issues may be too good to turn down.

With all the stadium shit, no new signings....would DL ? would he want all that shit? and with our TW shut there would be no replacement...

No chance....the next TW maybe...IMO ofc.

tend to agree with this sentiment....Levy would be really undermining Poch in public....funnily enough Poch's decision to keep Toby on on Saturday would further underscore it was a financial decision at the expense of the football side....not a good look
