And Kane. And Hugo. And ...

Well not really. Kane is on a 6 year deal, in the unlikely chance he ever threw his toys out the pram angling for a move Levy could just throw them back at him. Toby on the other hand could decide to go to Chelsea or Liverpool for 25mil next summer, we have no say in the matter. Given the choice of that or 40m from the continent in January then the sale's a no brainer for Levy.

Really hope this is all moot though and he signs a new deal. The guy is so valuable to us.

Wonder what all those people who thought Davinson was already the better player are thinking now.

What you mean one of those people that thought Toby was out the door so talked up a new young player we had and played down the abilities of the one they thought was out the door...

Yeah where are those people... (I'm not one of them BTW, but it's just human nature)

This sounds very wild and innaccurate to me. Contractial negotiations always go on and their outcomes will always go 1 or 2 ways. Until then we play the team that poch see's as best.
When poch eventually leaves of course we will lose a small few it always happens. But until then.
It has been so long since we had a trophy, I can understand why fans want our best players to play as often as possible this season regardless of what they intend to do to us next year.
And MP needs to have something to show for his efforts by now.
And even an FA cup victory might convince players that they can achieve important things at the club in the future. Maybe.

But a club also has to prepare for the following seasons. If we had a continental type director of football they'd spell out MP's obligations for next season.
Sanchez is the future whether we like it or not and needs to be the established 1st choice - in a 2 or 3 well before the end of the season. Likewise for Dier, or a big name LCB defender bought in january.
TA and JV are arguably the best defenders the club have ever had - still are - but need to be second choice by the end of the season regardless of their ability.

It is not very dignified, but what they are doing with their contracts is not dignified either. The club needs to move on too.

I agree with the sentiment, but JV and TA need to be playing if they are they best players, same with DS. Defenders can play until 35 no problem as seen with Juve. More important is the commitment. If they committed, they play

Can we not just worry about playing the best we possibly can this season? With that mindset, should we start dropping Eriksen as well? Lloris?

That he might not be?

Or that’s he’s still really good and one game doesn’t change their opinion?

Or damn I’m feeling bloated after lunch and can’t wait for the day to be over

That should cover you

And you think this will persuade them to stay? To suddenly bench them? How is poch supposed to explain that? It would cause a major implosion which would see 1 or 2 others also leave.
Best thing to do is pat em on the back and tell em to go out their and win the damn trophies they want.

And how do you know what is going on...really? Negotiations are taking place im sure but u make it sound as though u know whats happening

I argued with several people on here who had written him off as a top player and that Sanchez was already superior.

Unless you speak to Poch you have no real idea why it was Sanchez that was substituted and not Toby or Verts

I mean does it really take a genius to figure out it was because Toby offered more going forward, while remaining stable at the back?

tend to agree with this sentiment....Levy would be really undermining Poch in public....funnily enough Poch's decision to keep Toby on on Saturday would further underscore it was a financial decision at the expense of the football side....not a good look
How would it be undermining Poxh in public? Did Poch not say in quite a lot of detail that if a player didn't want to be here he would rather they went?

Vinny must really want to be here then. Keeps getting injured just so we can't sell him.

I'll own it.

Toby did get caught upfield a couple of times against Fulham. But, I'll also acknowledge that Toby poses a greater attacking threat in the run of play than Sanchez. The passes Toby was making - particularly to Trippier were excellent.

We were chasing a goal, so I had no problem with Toby staying on, and Sanchez coming off. I'd still prefer Sanchez to Toby defensively.

Fair play. (y) I disagree and think Toby is (and will continue to be, at least for 2-3 years until Sanchez begins to really peak) better both defending and going forward than Davinson, but happy to agree to disagree and wasn't trying to call you out for your opinion, just giving Shady an example answer to his question.

Both is best though. The back 3 with any two from Wanyama, Dembélé and Winks in front of them is the way to go. Against weaker teams the wingbacks are basically wingers and Jan and Toby are deep lying playmakers. Dier in CM is redundant in this system which is why it didn't work out so well on Saturday.
