It’s a really interesting own this because certainly the people around him took a gamble and it seemingly backfired on them big time. Now we are guaranteed 25million if he leaves and he still has to persuade someone to pay him what they wouldn’t do last summer. Under Jose I could have seen Utd signing him but now I struggle to see anyone else in the top six who will pay the fee and his wages given his age and injuries.

Manure will certainly unless ofcourse they get Poch which wont happen.

Toby has proven his fitness this season no? which could be enough for him to get his contract

Absolutely it could be - I am just not sure it will be. The question here is surely whether the damage that was done, as we were told in the summer, between himself and the manager has been repaired and their relationship has been mended enough for us to go back to the table and negotiate a contract.

What if they are not in the cl? Would toby go there for money alone? He's not a young man anymore.

You just answered your own question I think - he isnt a young man and 50k a week really isnt much in the grand scheme of things. Four more years at 150k a week (potentially more) would set him and his family up for life... trophies will be great along the way but trophies wont get him money...

I cant imagine the damage that was done was irreparable, i mean you would only need to look at the level of his performances to see that - he has clearly remained focused and professional... just look at his reactions when we score and when we win... Then you look at the likes of Pogba et al at Manure when Jose was manager - that was irreparable

He could get that here with probably a better squad to play for with a better chance of winning something. Or he could go somewhere else and earn that.

Don't kid yourself. 25m is nothing for a player of his quality in this market, who is not only a top defender but is a very good footballer to build attacks out from defence with. He's back in the team and back to being one of our most important players again, unsurprisingly.

I'm quite sure his next club will be 'bigger' or higher up the food chain than us so I doubt anything will backfire for him. And he would improve any of the top six and they're all rich and willing to spend so let's just hope he has unfinished business somewhere abroad.

Markets are static they go up and down. We saw a massive drop in spending money last summer, partly due to the domestic tv rights actually going down slightly, partly due to there not be the huge amounts flying about after the neymar deal. PSG and City will have to be careful they are both under investigation again over ffp. I think we will see prices of players drop. We are also seeing lots of players run their contracts down. Why pay £50m for a player who at the end of his contract leaves for free? It is unsustainable.

So the 25m release clause will see us get 25m in 1 payment surely? Somebody cant trigger it and then offer a soddy payment structure? Must be 25m in 1 hit.

We all know he will be at united right? Seems pretty obvious to me.

The payment in full is the most likely scenario to be in the contract.

I guess thats why it is annoying, i bet we arent miles apart if at all then again i just find it weird how all this has gone on - same with Eriksen actually... like what the fuck.

Yup, it's odd, especially as they're playing so well with no hints of dissent. Meh.

Can't blame payers for wanting to get the best deal they can in their careers and also wanting to win trophies. Let's hope they can do it with us

There will definitely be takers at £25m, it just depends on length of contract he will be offered. We should do everything we can to keep him but if it comes down to him or Eriksen then only one option
