Sanchez and Foyth are miles off the level of security that Vertonghen and Alderweireld currently provide though. I'm not sure that's partnership that would give me ease of mind to be honest, unless both really do start to cut out mistakes.

I agree, we could do with at least one experienced CB to partner Foyth/Sanchez when Jan and Toby leave, they'll need replacing.

I think Sanchez and Foyth are both seen as the long term replacements for Toby and Jan. I think Jan will leave after next season (he's 32 now) so it would be great if can convince Toby to stay and partner him for one more season.

We saw Sanchez, Foyth and Trippier together in a back four at Bournemouth. Recipe for disaster. My nerves can just about deal with only ONE of them in the team.

We should be all over DeLigt to come next season. A season with Toby and Jan in the PL would do wonders for him. There's no way Sanchez and Foyth can carry the can when they leave.

One or two more seasons of those two, especially as Toby is still only 30 is not behind the realms of possibility but it all comes down to the contract. We should be offering him something after the season he's had.

I know. That's why I'm saying a season under Jan and Toby's guidance would be massive. Maybe even 2 if we're lucky.

Yeah but you might as well say the same for Sanchez and Foyth then, another season for those two under the same guidance will improve them as well, and they already have a head start on him.

Sanchez was brilliant alongside Jan towards the end of last season, regular game time really helps young CBs. He was a massive part of us finishing 3rd. Crazy how some forget. Even Jan and Toby have made a fair few errors this season. I really want Toby to stay but succession wise it might not be a bad thing bedding in Sanchez alongside an experienced hand like Vertonghen next season. I still think Davinson has massive potential.

He will be a big loss and will make our defence even weaker if he leaves.

Foyth is miles away from being ready, Jan is 32 and Sanchez has had a topsy turvy season.

We need to strengthen, and can ill afford to have a player of Toby's quality leave. I sincerely hope the club have a top replacement lined up, someone who is experienced who can slot straight into the side.

I'd take Maguire from Leicester but ideally the club have identified an even better target.

He will be a loss, but we had reports of either Toby or Poch next season due to last years contact fiasco.
I know which I prefer

I think a lot of that has got to do with the protection (or lack of) in front of the back four, that has definitely deteriorated

Totally - remember the Wanyama / Dembele shield that just sat there. No one got past that.

And you had Rose and Walker at their absolute best.

That was an incredible team - best Spurs team I've ever seen.

Trippier has made 2 errors leading directly to goal in the premier league this season.

It's more than Toby for sure, but it's not as bad as some are making out.

It's a team game, you defend as a team and you attack as a team. If one player gets caught short, you want the others to back them up, not point the finger.
Personally, I think 3 years our squad was younger and fitter. We've clearly seen the number of injuries increase to comical levels this season. That's the world cup, no new players to reduce the burden and, undoubtedly, age.

I don't know what the answer is. I'm just pointing it out.
