Dier made a mistake on Sunday, it happens ffs. He was immense alongside Dembele against United.

Pochettino rates him so highly because he's so reliable in terms of his mentality, a complete competitior who has been instrumental in us losing that soft underbelly we had for years.

He's also tactically flexible and Pochettino trusts him.

Some are way too critical of him. He's not perfect but still a very important cog in this side.

We would have lost by at least two goals against southampton due to dier's dire passing in our own half. We did not lose because they were very poor in the finishing department.

He uses the ball much better than he is given credit for IMHO.

I don't like to get into arguments about whether to play him over Dier, as it is a squad game and I was irate at the idea of Dier going to United in the summer - when there were some on here in favour of it. We should be seeing Dier as part of a very bright future, moving forward. But if I had to pick a best eleven for any given match, Big Vic would be in the midfield. More bang for your buck...as we saw today :)

The thing that still irks me about Dier is, instead of bucking up and embracing the fact that is a team game and viewing Wanyama's initial introduction to the team as healthy competition, he felt threatened and complained to Poch. It spoke to his mentality that he didn't feel secure in his ability to make the DM position his own. It also didn't help that he was poor for a long stretch of games for us.

Wanyama’s goal against Liverpool is no.1 on Sky Italia’s Goal Deejay, a sort of Top of the Pops, top 50 goals for the whole season.

Liverpool monitor Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama amid uncertainty over Emre Can's future

By Chris Wheeler for MailOnline18:13, 16 Feb 2018, updated 18:52, 16 Feb 2018

Liverpool are monitoring developments with Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also taken note that the Kenya international has been used sparingly by Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino following his return from injury.

Wanyama has started in the FA Cup ties against AFC Wimbledon and Newport County but has been used predominantly as a substitute during the eight other games that he has been involved in since recovering from a knee injury.

That included a 12 minute cameo against Liverpool when he changed the game with a thunderous strike in the 2-2 draw.

Former Anfield captain and now youth team coach Steven Gerrard highlighted Liverpool's need to find a 'monster' holding midfielder for next season to bring the best out of new signing Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson.

With Emre Can weighing up a summer move to Juventus, Gerrard said: 'I think Liverpool would benefit from a monster of a central midfielder, a holder.

'A Wanyama-type player who does sit in and is disciplined, and he would give more protection to the back four.

'Emre Can's leaving, obviously Keita's coming in. But Keita is a No 8, Keita is a dribbler, and a runner.

'The way he (Klopp) plays he plays 4-3-3 more often than not. So you can accommodate a Henderson and a Keita.'

Though Gerrard's remarks were understood to be innocent of any inside information, Wanyama is considered a player of interest and knows several of the Liverpool squad well from his time at Southampton.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also followed the 26-year-old closely as they look to bolster their options in that position. Indeed Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has often pinpointed Wanyama as one of Tottenham's key players.

'There is a player who is very important for them now, Wanyama,' said Conte last season. 'He is a really good player. He has quality during the game, stamina, work rate and shows great commitment for the team. I like these things about him.'

Steven Gerrard said Liverpool need a Wanyama type player, the media took the word "type" out and said Liverpool want Wanyama and this pratt has made up a whole three act play based on that lie.

Including a lot of google searching for other people praising Wanyama and some opta stat work. All that effort for some clicks.

Is Wanyama carrying an injury that needs an operation? If not, why is he not starting any matches? Have I missed something?

Knee injury during the pre-season. Instead of surgery, the physios and coaches decided to treat with rehab/rest. Seems he's still feeling the effects and will probably have surgery during the summer. I also believe Winks will have ankle surgery to clear up the issue he's been having.

Hopefully he’ll then be back to his best as he has been way below last seasons standard for virtually off of this season, which is a massive shame.

We need him fully fit as he’s our best defensive midfielder.
