Fine, but every time he comes on, he fouls, wins free kicks, and tumbles over
It wasn't like that today though, today he came on at 85 minutes as a target man, so that we could play it forward and make it stick, before he came on it kept coming back at us after he came on it didn't and part of that was holding up the ball and keeping possession which he did perfectly and was what led to them fouling him in frustration.

We spent most of the last few minutes playing in and around the Saints box and he was a major part of that. I wanted him on earlier as Son was just not effective today and in particular the second half.

We needed a focal point. I have no idea why Poch didn't bring him and Winks on at the same time.

Very lively cameo though. I'd start him against Burnley.

I can't describe how much I want him to do well.
I hope we see him more often. The only way he can improve is by getting a run in the team.

& I'm glad he took that shot on. Dele was in a good position but Harry Kane would've taken the shot on as well.

Me too, think it's a good sign he's finally starting to get goal facing and taking shots, rather than travelling backwards constantly. On a different day with a keeper not playing as well as Forster it would have rocketed into the back of the net too.

Was gonna say. It was well on target and he fucking smacked it. Goal if not for Forster, who played well all game.

He hit it perfectly. It was a brilliant effort.

Surprised me as I watched the vid of his goals last season and virtually all of them were scrappy or in-the-box close finishes.

We all know that he isn't up to Kane's standards but in the second half, Saints were the better team with more possession. In the minutes that he played, VJ did what he had to do to keep our lead, disrupt Saints second half superior possession and eventually maintain our winning streak at the Lane.

Job done Vincent. (y)

Another very good cameo where he did what needed to be done to see the game out. Reckon he must be getting a start somewhere in the week where we play 1st, 5th and 8th.

He's getting confidence - Usually takes foreign players 6 months to a year to really settle. I still think he is going to be a serious threat.

Can't not love his attitude.

This thread is starting to make poor Bobby only look mortal. I think Vinny could become Saintly

Imagine if he actually starts to play anywhere near the same level as the rest of the 1st team

He did that one really bad pass (straight to a Southampton player when there was no chicken badge near him) and he should've squared that Ball to Ali (though his effort was decent) other than that he did ok.

Dirk Kuyt said in an interview (I think it was Sky Sports), that Janssen moved to the premier league too soon. That the difference between the Eredivisie and Premier League is too much for an unexperienced player. And it should not be expected of such a player to perform straight away.

I agree with what he had to say. Eriksen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld had over 100 league games before coming to England. Kuyt played over 200 games before he moved to Liverpool. Our three former Ajax players performed well in their first season in England, and I believe it was their experience that helped them. Eriksen would have struggled if we had signed him two years earlier.

I think it was too tempting signing Janssen, because he was top scorer in Eredivisie last season. He had only played at the highest level in Netherlands for one season, before movig to England.

He'll be lucky if he is not sold in the summer. Pochettino has let players go before after only one season. Example: Stambouli, Fazio, N'jie (with Poch, loaning out a player might as well mean he is sold)

A lot of that I'd agree with however I don't think Janssen will be sold in the summer. Every now and again he shows something that makes me think he can make it here, also he is still young and learning. It's all down to how his attitude is and how determined he is to improve and make it here that will decide whether he stays or goes.

Fully aware of his problems at the moment, but I would like to see him start against Burnley. Our shape isn't right without a proper centre forward.

Son can be used for special missions, like the press we used against man city at home, but usually when he is upfront you can see our players struggling to find a forward pass, or if they were forced into playing a longer ball forward I don't know how many of those Son won or get hold off...maybe none! But then that's not his game. Thought this was the cause of lot of our problems in the 2nd half against southampton.

I was thinking exactly that this morning. I can see the logic in trying to steal a march on other teams by getting him early, and there are positive signs that he should be persevered with, but he could have done with staying in the Eredivisie for another season. Would have given him a year's more experience and a year to prepare more physically. Maybe if we'd had another senior striker he would have stayed out on a season's loan deal.

Should have loaned him back for a season then...
Wasn't ever going to happen though because that would also have required the purchase of another striker, one who would have been ready for the PL straight away, and that would have been another £30+ million spend.
I think he'll be given another season with us.

If he moved here too early, doesn't it follow that selling him this summer would be too rash?
