Dirk Kuyt said in an interview (I think it was Sky Sports), that Janssen moved to the premier league too soon. That the difference between the Eredivisie and Premier League is too much for an unexperienced player. And it should not be expected of such a player to perform straight away.

I agree with what he had to say. Eriksen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld had over 100 league games before coming to England. Kuyt played over 200 games before he moved to Liverpool. Our three former Ajax players performed well in their first season in England, and I believe it was their experience that helped them. Eriksen would have struggled if we had signed him two years earlier.

I think it was too tempting signing Janssen, because he was top scorer in Eredivisie last season. He had only played at the highest level in Netherlands for one season, before movig to England.

He'll be lucky if he is not sold in the summer. Pochettino has let players go before after only one season. Example: Stambouli, Fazio, N'jie (with Poch, loaning out a player might as well mean he is sold)
However, if we'd waited a year and he'd continued to be as good as he was last season then we probably wouldn't be able to compete with the real money clubs at that point? Can't win sometimes - had loads of people saying we should have bought the likes of Martial or Depay the previous season before they became too expensive. I think that's what we did here.

We could also tell Ajax who he played 110 games for, or Gronigan who he played a full season for. That's 4 full seasons in the eirdivisie or whatever that call the Dutch top flight. The original point is very valid.

It's almost a tradition that Pochettino gets rid of a player after 12 months, and indeed I do believe it's highly likely to be repeated in the summer. However, I doubt the one to go after 12 months this time is Janssen.

So when we buy them early it's to early and when we fail due to other teams picking up interest in a target of ours, like say Batshuayi, we complain about not getting the player earlier (n)

What we need is a crystal ball

I hope Vinny comes good. But add his fee up with Sissoko's rumoured and what we punted on N'Koudou we could have gone for a top drawer player that could be a genuine First 11 option. Hindsight obviously and hopefully a change in approach this summer

Sad thing is, it isn't really hindsight. Most of us voiced concerns as such during the window. It's true, the "we don't have the cash"-line falls on stone ground when you look at accrued spendings last summer, total wages spent every wekk and total number of footie minutes among the new attacking players.

No quotes, no inside info, nothing at all that explains where this story comes from, so large pinch of salt etc. Should add, article also says we'll listen to offers on Sissoko.

Tottenham will cut their losses and sell Vincent Janssen this summer.

Dutch striker Janssen admitted his frustration this week after struggling to adapt to English football.

The 22-year-old has managed just one goal from open play since a £20million move from AZ Alkmaar in his homeland last summer.

As Tottenham have yet to pay all the instalments on the deal, Janssen could return to Holland in a transfer that would see them taking only a relatively small financial hit.

I don't object at all to the idea of buying young potential.
Janssen and N'gie and N'Koudou were all punts along those lines.
As were Dele and Dier,
And the idea of bringing through our own, Winks and Kane is wonderful in so many ways.

Sissoko is a whole different saucepan of worms.
and shows the other side of the risks of buying experience and Prem oven ready.
To sell Janssen just as he starts to establish himself
and with Harry Kane injured would be foolhardy.

There's nothing wrong with the plan it's the players that sometimes spoil it

Didn't even see him in the squad for the game against Bulgaria; which they subsequently lost. Any idea why?

Anyone see the training montage of his finishes with Holland that came out this week? Smashing them in from all over the shop. He's certainly got some natural finishing ability.
