He really has slimmed down, hopefully not carrying that extra poundage may give him a little bit of pace. I've a feeling he will be playing a lot in pre-season and if he can start finding the net, then against teams playing 3 at the back, then we may actually play with 2 strikers (assuming Janssen has a good pre-season).

Playing 2 up top has always been the most effective counter to 3/5 at the back and considering most of the top 5 are playing that way an in form Janssen could be the solution.

All this with a massive caveat that he comes good in pre-season

He looked decent preseason last year

In fact I think had he scored both of his fairly easy chances in the opening two games when he only had the keeper to beat his
confidence would have been high and he may well have had a much better year

I wouldn't be surprised if he did well in preseason again, it's converting it into EPL form when playing second fiddle and having limited opportunities that will be more of a challenge

heard this a lot about Soldado as proof he would come good

That isn't to say Janssen won't succeed because Soldado didn't

Although in truth I think I saw more positives from Soldado during his first season than I have from Janssen, for the most part he's looked a real donkey with no pace and at best some decent hold up play and the odd decent potential assist

I'd love him to come good, as I would all our current "flop" signings, but I find it hard to believe having watched him play for us so far. But he's young and has time to improve if he is still with us next season

I'm certainly going to give him the benefit of the doubt if we don't sell him and choose to believe that we keep him because Poch thinks he will come good rather than us not being able to find a buyer willing to pay a decent amount for him. Will be interesting to see if Poch wants to keep or upgrade

MOre than one player in recent times have been sold on despite not having a great deal of playing time which suggests if Poch has cast a negative judgement on Vincent he will too be sold

a big difference though Saldado's 1st season 22 apps + 6 subs, Janssen 7apps 20 subs, most of his subs have been less than 15 mins

from what has been reported and what Janssen has said in the press I really think he'll be leaving. If he does I would seriously try to do a swap deal with Galatasaray for Bruma and give them Janssen.
And then don't bother going for a big name striker to backup Harry and just go for youth, ideally Iheanacho from City and temp them with the Walker carrot if they will give us somewhere near, say, 30M-40M on top. If that fails then I'd be happy for a no-name player who is young and happy to play second fiddle to Harry and cup games. After all, Janssen has done us no great service for his large fee so whats the risk in taking on a lesser known player? Anyone seen much of that Danish kid - Marcus Ingvartsen ? Looks a pretty decent young player with the tenacity and some skills that could be nurtured I reckon..
