I know it’s
Nando seemed to spend most of his time waving his arms in frustration and moaning. We kept crossing for him, but he got on the end of nothing. I have to say Dunk and Duffy were absolutely brilliant last night. If Brighton do go down, we could do a lot worse if Toby goes.
easy saying it now but really we shouldn’t had played Llorente, dunk and Duffy live off heading the balls away, so defending against a striker who is known for his heading is almost bread and butter for them.

Did anyone else notice when Poch was asked about VJ in the post match interview, he wasn't his usual self? Not the usual "fought for the team, berry happy for the player" bit at all? Felt more like a gun to his head, forced upon him kind of thing. I know we've realistically only got Janssen back in because of all the injuries, and I hope, but don't expect, him to make the matchday squads once our injured players start to return. Poch's body language suggested he didn't welcome the question. Nice reception from the crowd though when our number 9 finally came on.
I was thinking exactly the same, even said We are going to decide if he is available, sometimes to use, sometimes to not like another player
came across a lot more negative

I agree with you, but some of the clearances / blocks / goal line stuff behind their keeper were outstanding.

I watch Brighton quite a bit as they are my local team and friends give me tickets when they can't make games. Defensively they are very solid and well drilled even when they don't park the bus like last night.

It’s because as a team we do not know how to cross the ball. I would have played Verts at LB as he is the only one who can (a) cross and (b) cross first time. A striker like Llorente needs to be able to know when to run across his man to get an advantage. Last night he was constantly stood flat footed with Dunk and Duffy either side of him. He quite simply did not have a chance. And if we do not play to his strengths then we should not start him and keep him as Plan B.

I've been advocating signing Dunk for quite a few seasons actually. Now I think there are better and younger CBs in PL who could be more appropriate. Did great last night though.

I understand what you're saying, but don't you think someone of his height and experience should have the guile to make that movement, use his body to create that little bit of space / time he needs? When our crosses came in, it looked to me as though FL wasn't even jumping, couldn't be bothered to compete and had decided he was beaten before he started.

How many goals tho? :cautious:

Still 100% of fuck all

He is absolutely useless and as substitutes go changed the square root of zilch

The sooner he gets shipped out and we can get a proper no9 in the better. To imagine this group of players and club now competing at the top table with a no9 like that

Shows what a fantastic job Poch has done

Does anyone recall the circumstances of the Janssen signing? Was it more a DoF/club decision, or a Poch/coaching team decision? I'm thinking the former, because Poch has never seemed particularly keen.

Did more in his few minutes than Llorente did all game. Fernando has done a great job at times this year, but last night was not one. Zero movement, static, predictable and lazy/knackered. Even the players seemed to be getting pissed off with him, particularly eriksen. Give Fernando a rest against the spam and give janssen a pop.

I remember seeing poch watch him a few times personally. So he was aware.

Its a different thing though defending the penalty spot with 8 teammates around you to close every hole than being in a high line and try to avoid counter attacks while having technical ability to start the build up of every attack.

You could really see that Vinnie wanted to get involved. Seems highly motivated. Maybe a useful sub option for the last three league games.

I agree he is pretty crap and unathletic, but CFs need to know when to make a run (e.g. across his man to the near post), and when our wide players are constantly taking too many touches and going back inside it really is impossible. It would help if anyone passing to Trippier played it in front of him so he has to run on to it and increase the odds of him crossing it first time. His crossing was especially poor last night. If you look at all his assists from last season they were usually first time crosses and attackers gambled on a run.

Sorry but how can you drop him to the under23s and not have at least one game on the bench till yesterday, could he be really that bad in training? Because other than his finishing I like the player and there is potential. Only young too...

He was a busy and disruptive presence when he came on. With him and Nando we had a more traditional front pairing, and between them they started breaking up the space in the box. It's no coincidence that suddenly through balls and shots started getting through.

Would start him on Saturday. Fresh legs And chance to give us another attacking option gong into the Ajax game.

I definitely wouldn't start him on Saturday. Llorente needs a run of games to up to match level and bringing him into the starting 11 at a time when the team needs to readapt to playing without Kane for the end of season run in means he's on the bench for me.

Having said that, i would be happy if he made the bench and made an appearance with 15 to 20 minutes to go and played well

The problem was that most of our crosses were from players who were cut it back and then trying to swing it in towards the goal in the hope of a flick on goal. the problem with this approach is that when the winger is carrying the ball towards the byline the defensive line is facing towards and moving towards the goal which is a difficult starting position to defend against. As soon as the winger cuts it back to swing it in, the defensive line can turn and get on the front foot to attack the crossed ball with a header. It's much easier to jump and head a ball you're moving forwards than if you're moving towards the goal.

We needed our players to put in early crosses from wide. If the crosses didn't hit the target it would have still encouraged the defence to open up because the full backs would have had to go out to the touchline to stop the crosses and thus creating more space.

With yesterdays approach even Crouch would have struggled to get on the crosses with Dunk and Duffy beside him. Both those defenders are 1.96m and 1.93m respectively.
