Looked OK, I think him being in the box forced them to stand of Eriksen and did some decent work to hold the ball in the closing stages.

It’s nice to have another option.

Why did he look OK?
I can't recall a single touch by him

Does anyone recall the circumstances of the Janssen signing? Was it more a DoF/club decision, or a Poch/coaching team decision? I'm thinking the former, because Poch has never seemed particularly keen.

Poch definitely watched him playing for Holland against Northern Ireland in Belfast.

Poch pushed hard for him.

If he started every game the rest of the season do you think he would score 1 goal?
Yes. He scored some very impressive goals in Holland, and for their national team (whilst missing sitters for us), so I think it's a confidence issue. He missed a couple of straightforward chances (I remember one vs Everton in a match where Lamela scored a header and was then accused of doing drugs, owing to his boisterous celebration). If he'd have buried that, perhaps his entire Spurs career would've gone differently.

Fact is, we can't rewrite history and we've been far better without him in the team, but I wouldn't be against giving him minutes in games we're winning by more than 2 goals or if we're facing a similar situation to the Brighton match.

I agree with this.

But also i think he really needs to improve his physicality in general. He needs to be faster, stronger, more offensively aggressive in getting into scoring positions and he needs to shoot more when in range. When he played he played like someone who's job it was to set up the chances or being a battering ram when his focus should be to finish off the moves.

What's the harm in giving a player that's motivated to prove the manager wrong a chance? Bringing him on at the end to add an option is better than bringing on another defender because we have no options.

I thought his pressing was fantastic. He’s really suits a high press system. Also made a great tackle in the middle of the park. Worth a start I think.

His only problem ever was in not scoring goals. A pretty huge problem for a striker admittedly, but the one which should be easiest to fix.

His work rate and hold up play was always good - it's one of the reasons players like him and Soldado have received massive support from the fans despite their failures - most supporters wanted them to succeed and could see how hard they were trying. Unfortunately sometimes when the goals won't go in they won't go in. All good strikers say the only way you can fix the problem is to keep playing, keep getting in the right positions to score and eventually it will come.

Well, until yesterday, Shane Long has made a long and illustrious career of being a striker that never scores!! ?
