Not many sets of fans would have given him the welcome we did when he came on yesterday. It must have been a boost to him.

Exactly what I thought, then I made the mistake of putting Talkshite on the radio in the car for the next morning and they deemed his reception to be “ironic cheers” from the spurs fans. Just about sums them up as anybody at the game will testify that the reception was genuine and fans were pleased to see VJ introduced (despite historic performances)

His only problem ever was in not scoring goals. A pretty huge problem for a striker admittedly, but the one which should be easiest to fix.

His work rate and hold up play was always good - it's one of the reasons players like him and Soldado have received massive support from the fans despite their failures - most supporters wanted them to succeed and could see how hard they were trying. Unfortunately sometimes when the goals won't go in they won't go in. All good strikers say the only way you can fix the problem is to keep playing, keep getting in the right positions to score and eventually it will come.

I'm afraid that is the hardest problem to fix

He didnt score any goals and the rest of his play was not good enough. It was exactly the same situation with Soldado especially when his goals had pretty much completely dried up

If these guys are doing everything else really well and contributing to the team winning, retaining the ball and creating chances etc then they would be starting or important substitutes. None of that was true with either of them

Imagine Kane at his best without the goals. Still probably the first person on the team sheet with the fantastic contribution he gives to his team

Having Janssen in our No9 shirt the way he's performed since he's been at Tottenham is disrespectful to the rest of the squad and the sooner we can move him on and bring a player in that can help the team the better

Too many Janssens and Nkoudous on your squad and you end up mid table, if your lucky!!

Disagree with all of that - because they were playing well and contributing but Kane absolutely blew both of them out of the water, and we only play with one striker (under both AVB and Poch, and mostly with Sherwood), so inevitably those two lost their places to him, as he was doing everything and scoring as well.

I won’t ever agree that they were playing badly and not contributing anything because I watched it all and didn’t agree with those sentiments then.

You are perfectly entitled to your incorrect views on this matter

Vince to start up top with sonny vs west ham? Unsure Llorente can play Saturday and Tuesday and we will need him vs Ajax. Always loved Janssen irrationally thought he looked the real deal in international football and he always worked his bollocks off despite people mocking him for being bulky.

Even when Janssen wasn't firing (and lord he was not firing), he always put a shift in and was decent at playing with his back to goal and being a '1-2 wall' for others. I'd be interested to see how he partners Sonny in attack against West Ham, especially if we want to rest Moura and Llorente for Tuesday.

Come on. Looks like some of you have forgotten how bad he is.
I would rather use Parrott in the coming games

Jansse is a waste of space. And to think he has the #9 shirt

Spurs fans - forget how bad useless players were but remember the exact date when the team bottled it years ago.

This.

Getting so much love from Spurs fans, just because he works for it i'll never understand.

Janssen had potential when he arrived off the back of a great season in the Eredivise, however his disappointing first season followed by a bad loan spell in Turkey with injuries and a relatively poor return in an inferior league meant his career with us was effectively over.

People want(ed) him to succeed, including me but I think the reality is that through the combination of luck, injury, effort, talent, skill and circumstance he is no longer good enough for Spurs and only finds himself on the bench due to our impotence in the transfer market and injuries.

"Never say never" but it seems unlikely his future lies at Spurs. Sure, he could go on a surprise run off the bench, surprise everyone in training by working incredibly hard and a lack of offers may mean he will be given another chance by Pochettino - but I think we are now aiming higher than Janssen.

I would trust that ALL Spurs fans want all our players to succeed.

Jannsen though pushed that belief and hope a tad too far for most IMO

He touched the ball 4 times against Brighton and aparently that was enough for our fans to decide he should start against West Ham.

Like another poster said, would rather Parrott start. One of the worst footballers I've seen at Spurs in the modern era.

Agree that he certainly doesn’t merit a start based on a short, rather indifferent cameo but not sure I agree re: worst players comment. But I guess it depends on what you define as ‘modern era’.

[Vlad Chiriches (shudder), Fazio, Frazier Campbell, Zeki Fryers and Ryan Nelsen were no better...]

You'll be eating your words when he nets his hattrick goal.

To be honest I was buzzing when he came on the other day, but watching him just reminded me how bad his positional play is. He’s nearly always got his back to goal when he receives the ball, he just isn’t intelligent enough a footballer to make it in the PL.

Can’t believe he hasn’t really progressed since we bought him, hasn’t he been coached???

Whilst I think Janssen has been awful for us, I will no longer write any player off after seeing how Sissoko has turned his Tottenham career around. If someone last year had said Mo was going to be the likely winner of our POTY award I would have laughed my head off.

This. He looked absolutely awful in every possible facet of the game. Poor touch, poor positional play, poor passing, just poor.

Seeing him now, is unbelievable. Almost never gives the ball away, usually picks the intelligent pass, very frequently turns defense into attack, driving runs, boundless energy, always in the right place at the right time.

Janssen is poor, however, he is a willing runner and hard worker. He clearly knows where the goal is. Stranger things have happened.

As for the worst player at spurs in modern times, not even close. Nicola Berti was shocking, Andy booth, Ben Thatcher, that polish striker. To name a few.

Exactly what I was about to write. Players also remember things like this (sticking with them through hard times) and if they eventually come good, it increases the likelihood of them sticking around if a bigger club comes calling.

That being said, I don't think Janssen will turn it around - will happily eat my words if he does though.
