I have been wrong many times before but I just cannot see a player in this geuy. His lack of agility/balance is of grave concern to me.

I think once he scores from open play he will be ok.. I`d be interested to know how many assists he has this season. He basically turned the game with winning a penalty and setting up Son for the winner.

For 17m he has already surpassed what i was expecting from him.

Wow, that's a new one.

You have very very low expectations

Leaving aside if we think he will improve or not, there's no way in hell someone expected so little from a 17m striker signing

Edit: I just realised your name is Vincent. Vinny is that you?? are you defending yourself now on internet?

Loved his reaction after the penalty went in too. He's certainly fired up.

So little?? Care to elaborate? The way i read your post is like Vinny was a 50m striker.

I've written this in a post before:

What other new strikers in this league this season are blowing it away? Seriously name them..... Michy and Slimani who were a lot more, Musa, Zaza, Lucas Perez, Baston, even Bony / Benteke who have years of experience have been woeful. But yes, after just coming to this league, after just meeting all these new players, after getting used to a new manager, lets say he's clearly not up for it.

This guy has stepped up and banged in penalties when not really on form, that takes balls. Every time he plays he works hard, he has ridiculous strength and really great at bringing others into play and people question his positioning but you watch him, go back watch the games he has played and look how many decent runs he makes off the ball without our players playing him in, this guy is far better than he gets credit for and people need to give him some bloody time to settle.

We now have a different option finally, he has added to a squad depth, can come in for Kane at the end of games, can play up top with him, can play in cup games and i have confident in him. He's a second striker not Suarez, so lets calm down our expectations.

So over to you Ossie85....

I thought he looked good when he came on. I did think he'd start but maybe it was the best option to bring him on from the bench.

Was disappointed he didnt start, honestly think bar goal return from open play he has done alright most games he has played, he's been unlucky in that the games he played the team never actually created him many chances, maybe 1 or 2, he's held the ball up well. When we create 4-5 chances for him a game and he's missing them all then maybe jump on his back but he's probably had about 20 or so shots on goal so far, I'm still not ready to call him soldado mk2 like my Chelsea and arsenal friends are calling him.

Son's shots on goal yesterday were woefully off target. I do like him but was so frustrated with him in the 1st half.

He's an odd player isn't he. Always tumbling over, doing the same kind of move, very one footed. Slow feet. I'd like to see him in the box more, don't try and play Kane's game. Just try and get in the box and score

Do people liken him to Soldado because he plays #9 and struggles to score? Difference for me is Soldado missed absolute sitters. Janssen isn't doing that

The worry for Janssen is he's not getting in the positions to miss those chances.

Give me a striker who's missing chances over someone who isn't getting any.

Janssen needs to be brave enough to get in those positions and his game will take off.

In fairness, he did that on Saturday

He seemed a little better yesterday, a little more of a threat and appeared to be leaner and fitter, he even seemed to have a bit of pace when he won the pen - but I am not sure how much of that was the defender being slow?

I will caveat that by saying, with the greatest respect to them, it was against Wycombe.

To me it's pretty simple. He was bought as cover for Kane. The main thing we miss when Kane doesn't play is obviously his goal scoring. Janssen was bought because of his scoring record in Holland. He hasn't scored goals. He doesn't look like scoring goals even against lower level opposition and as hard as he works he can hardly be considered any kind of success unless he starts doing that. Son may lose the ball a lot and run into some blind alleys but I would always pick him as our back up striker when he scores goals but Janssen doesn't.

Looks leaner
Most of our recent purchases have successful because they were ready for our demanding regime.
Wanyama (former Poch player)
Alderweireld (former Poch player EDIT: former Simeone player)
Dele (had half a year to prepare with club instruction)
Son (Bayer Leverkusen has an incredibly demanding fitness regime)

Shouldn't surprise anyone that Janssen, coming from the Eresdivisie would need time to acclimate to one of the most demanding physical schedules out of any football team worldwide. Even Sissoko, who most of us would agree is physically talented (even if lacking in other areas) has looked exhausted when he's played for us.

I still believe Janssen be awesome when he's truly fit and ready.

I agree with your sentiment but Toby never played for Poch, agree though southampton is a good spring board to come to us. Also Dele was playing for MKD for that 6 months not training with the club. In the case of Toby and DA both were just very good players that adapted quickly through own qualities.

Given time Janssen will do ok. As others say he needs to work on staying around the box and not varying to far from that. His hold up and team play is generally good but he's trying so hard to impress he's spending too much time dropping to get on the ball. An older more mature player would know to stay near the box and not chase the game. I think this will come as he relaxes into things.

True, forgot that, Both Koeman and Simeone run a pretty strict regime too though.

Yeah, I know Alli was training with MKD, but I'm pretty sure he was told what to prepare for when he came to us and it definitely seems like he came prepared. Janssen, on the other hand, got like two weeks before Kane was injured and we threw him to the wolves.

There's also the issue of his generally not playing with the more creative players in our team. That wasn't the case earlier in the season, but of course that was when he was thrown into the deep end, so he needs to be given some leeway.

Can he make better runs and get himself into better position? Possibly. But I think it's a lot to do with the attacking support he has with him when he's playing right now.
